Kabanenko: Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine has already started

 Igor-Kabanenko

On Saturday [April 12], several cities in Donetsk oblast [region] were attacked by Russian subversive groups.

Rear Admiral Ihor Kabanenko wrote about it on his Facebook page.

“The invasion by Russian troops in the East has occurred. These are NOT separatists in Sloviansk and Krasnyi Lyman. Military reconnaissance and raiding units are working there. Their script is clear. They are “helping” separatists to destabilize the situation,” Kabanenko says.

“We need to ask a rhetorical question – will this continue to go on and spread [further]? And what should our government do in this situation? “Not provoke [them]?” resumed the Rear Admiral.

Previously,“Hvylia” reported that according to the operational data of the Information Resistance group, current extremist acts in the southeastern regions of Ukraine are initiatied and managed by a network coordinator of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The groups were identified as the employees of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate, which carried out the scenario of the seizure of government authorities and the blockade of Ukrainian military bases in Crimea in March of this year.

Scenario of invasions in the East:

1.  Reconnaissance and sabotage or diversion groups (alone or jointly with local separatists) capture the strategic objects – and create springboard bases for invasions.

2.  Springboard bases are enhanced by support forces (deployed by air, creeping across the border, arriving from Crimea, and so on) and separatists.

3.  Conduct integration of several advanced bases (regionally), by combining active hidden mechanisms at work (bribery of influential people, blackmail, intimidation and others).

4.  Announce and conduct controlled referendum (ballots are already printed).

5.  Announce pre-defined outcome of the referendum and … deploy army troops to secure the results.

There are weak spots in this scenario and counteracting them is possible. So again (at this point one is forced to admit) – it is a question of leadership.

Censor.NET just contacted the person from Sloviansk who is on the street outside the City Police Department [CPD], and who managed to talk with policemen from the seized CPD. Here is what he said:

“Horotdel MIA Sloviansk [CPD of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine] was captured by an army reconnaissance team of up to 30 people, who came to the city after a ground forced march – their uniforms and shoes are quite dirty. Their soldiers are acting as a coherent military unit, they are armed with machine guns with underbarrel grenade launchers, that [Ukrainian] police do not have in service – thus, they could not have captured [the weapons] but rather brought them from somewhere else themselves. The City PD police did not dare to use their weapons. They received information about the saboteurs’ arrival 15 minutes before the storm, and so they barricaded themselves. The saboteurs approached [the CPD] openly, and started throwing [military] firecrackers. They tore out the window grid with a truck, and calmly seized policemen and their armory. 30 locals wearing identifiable St. George ribbons, who joined them after the CPD attack, got the police guns. The linear police department and the State Guard Service of Sloviansk show no activity. The CPD is located on the main street of Sloviansk, there are crowds of onlookers there around the clock – between 500 to 1,000 people. Only the Sloviansk mayor [Nelya] Shtepa and employees of companies, which belong to City Council members from the Party of Regions, are currently active in their support of saboteurs. [Ukrainian] special forces have not arrived in Sloviansk yet. Obviously, this was a planned act of sabotage. We will continue to observe the situation.”

DMITRY TYMCHUK – On the Radical Rearmament of the Ukrainian Army

04.12.2014

Dmitry Tymchuk-EnglishI didn’t quite get the meaning of yesterday’s announcement  by Acting Defense Minister, Colonel-General Mykhaylo Kovalev, that, as of today, a radical rearmament of the Ukrainian army is not expedient.

He noted that, “Ukraine is not a rich state, and therefore it is still early to talk of radical rearmament. For now, the characteristics of existing weapons are enough for the performance of the tasks before the army.”

Maybe we should face reality? Not to disclose our terrible military secrets (though in Russia they are well aware of them), but let us recall well-known facts. For example, where do we have tactical missiles? Or maybe, general Koval thinks that the tactical system “Tochka” of 40 years ago is enough? And what do we have by means of EW or radio intelligence equipment (although Ukraine produces it)? Wherever you spit there are questions on top of questions – and it’s no secret.

Granted, this is not the time to talk about problems. But why say that they do not exist at all? After all, it’s a reason for the authorities to wave away the army – look, they themselves assert that everything is wonderful.

We must understand what is clear to the whole country and even to politicians who don’t specialize in army issues: on the strength of our armed forces depends the possibility of Ukraine’s future existence as a sovereign state. Without an army, Ukraine may no longer exist – neither as “a poor state,” nor in any other condition. That is why it is necessary to squarely pose the question of army rearmament now.

One can’t help remembering a case from history, when Stalin demanded the commander of the Eastern Front, General Apanasenko, to reposition all anti-tank guns from the Far East to the West. General hotly objected to Stalin: “And if the Japanese attack us, how will I defend the Far East? With these stripes?” In the end, Stalin decided not to reposition the guns.

And the Ukrainian generals, it seems, will apparently defend Ukraine with those stripes.
