Russian media call the separatists in the south-east of the country no less than “supporters of federalization”–this propaganda cliché has become so normal that consumers of Russian informational products probably won’t even be very surprised if they find out that the “supporters” wage battle using the latest weapons systems, depose legally elected mayors and city councils, and generally act like typical occupants do, regardless of their place of residence. Because occupation is first of all a forceful imposition of your opinion on the majority of the population and the destruction of those who disagree. In Moscow they can tell any stories they like about the “Ukrainian junta” but the fact remains–from the time of Victor Yanukovych’s flight from the country, not one regional or municipal council had its power terminated, with the exception of the Crimean Parliament who embarked on a path of collaboration with the occupation authorities. Not a single mayor has been impeached–in other words the will of no cities and regions in the country was violated. With the “supporters of federalisation” on the other hand, the first thing they do is try to seize power.
And this is not surprising because they are “supporters of federalisation” Russian-style. Europe already has one such federation, glued together literally with blood after a civil war that was started not by the local residents, but by a neighbouring country, convinced that only they know how everyone should live. It is Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which there are in fact three governments–the nation itself, the Muslim Croat Federation, and the Republika Srpska [Serbian Republic].
Before the collapse of Yugoslavia there was no trace of any Republika Srpska. It appeared after ethnic cleansing with the participation of “supporters of federalisation” of the military from neighbouring Serbia. Of course these supporters simply wanted to separate half of the territory of Bosnia and to attach it to Serbia (and even better–all of Bosnia and Herzegovina), but they simply couldn’t wipe out everyone who disagreed with this. This is exactly why they had to negotiate. But on the other hand, from the territory controlled by the “supporters of federalisation” they managed to expel everyone–Muslims, Croats, and of course, those Serbs who wanted to live in a unified Bosnia without inter-ethnic conflicts. And that is when Western mediators with the help of the dictator Slobodan Milosevic created a new state, in which the two parts still cannot be reconciled with one another–and cannot drift apart either.
But in this case Bosnia’s fate is far more enviable than Ukraine’s would be if the “supporters of federalisation” chop off a piece of it with assault rifles and machine guns. Because Serbia changed in the years after the war, they finished with dictatorship and are striving for EU membership. And, by the way, they will get there before Bosnia, have no doubts about that. But our “federal district Soviet Union” will neighbour an ever-more browning Russia. It will overflow with Nazi propaganda, which literally splatters from Russian TV screens, with chauvinistic arrogance, hatred of the civilised world and confidence that all issues in the world are solved through force and thievery. And it will broadcast this poison onto the territory which could be saved from the “supporters of federalisation” and the New Reich.
Therefore, it will still not be a real, unified nation. A real unified nation is a state of anti-fascists, who understand that fascism comes from the Kremlin and are doing everything possible to protect against the new infection. A country in which the interests of anti-fascists and Europeans try to combine with a Nazi view of the world, still will not last long.

Waldimir Putin kann die Spannungen in der Ukraine weiter anheizen, oder er könnte in einem Akt offener Aggression Truppen einmarschieren lassen. Putin hat eine Denkpause eingelegt, glaubt der ukrainische Journalist und Publizist Vitali Portnikow.
Vitali Portnikow ist sich sicher: Falls es nicht zu einer offenen Invasion russischer Truppen kommt, werden die Separatisten im Gefängnis landen.
Das Referendum in den Oblasten Donezk und Lugansk verfolge zwei Ziele: Es sollte Bildmaterial für das russische Fernsehen zu liefern, und es sollte die Möglichkeit öffnen, nun schon auf Grundlage einer „Willensäußerung des Volkes“ bei Bedarf eine Aggression gegen die Ukraine durchführen zu können. Jetzt hänge alles davon ab, inwieweit eine solche Aggression im Interesse der Russischen Föderation sei, erläutert der Journalist und Publizist Vitali Portnikow in einem Kommentar für Gordonua.com.
„Das russische Staatswesen ist dem Untergang geweiht. Weil es nur in einem Szenario der Koexistenz mit dem Westen bestand haben konnte. Einer politischen, wirtschaftlichen und energiewirtschaftlichen Koexistenz. Indem Wladimir Putin durch sein Handeln mit dieser friedlichen, gutnachbarschaftlichen Koexistenz abgeschlossen hat, hat er auch das russische Staatswesen als solches aufgegeben. Ich glaube, er versteht das gut, und deswegen wird er jetzt die Risiken abwägen. Im Prinzip ist ihm das Schicksal Russlands und der russischen Menschen gleichgültig. Doch Russland und die russischen Menschen müssen ihm eine komfortable Existenz ermöglichen. Jedenfalls so lange, wie er an ihnen interessiert ist, wie er sie ausnutzt“, so Portnikow.
Der Journalist ist überzeugt, dass die Separatisten im Gefängnis landen werden, falls es nicht zu einer offenen Invasion Russlands kommt.
„Wir müssen uns darüber im Klaren sein, dass, falls es zu keiner militärischen Invasion auf ukrainisches Territorium kommt, alle Separatistenbewegungen in unserem Land früher oder später eine Niederlage erleiden werden. Und ihre Teilnehmer und Organisatoren werden die verdiente Strafe erhalten“, glaubt Portnikow.
Mit den friedlichen Bewohnern des Donbass-Gebiets, die Sympathien für Russland hegen, sollte sich die ukrainische Regierung nach Meinung Portnikows verständigen können.
„Es gibt eine nicht zu vernachlässigende Anzahl friedlicher Bürger im Donbass-Gebiet, die sich eine Union mit Russland sehr wünschen. Die Hauptaufgabe des ukrainischen Staates bei der Suche nach einem politischen Kompromiss mit der Bevölkerung der Oblaste Donezk und Lugansk ist es, dafür zu sorgen, dass dieser Kompromiss auf keinen Fall Auswirkungen auf den außenpolitischen Kurs der Ukraine hat. Die Menschen in den Oblaten Donezk und Lugansk müssen sich daran gewöhnen, dass die Ukraine irgendwann Mitglied der EU werden wird. Dass sie besondere Beziehungen mit der NATO aufbauen wird. Dass sie einen demokratischen, marktwirtschaftlichen Staat aufbauen wird. Einen Staat der Chancengleichheit, ohne Oligarchen und korrupte Beamte. Und dieser Staat wird selbstverständlich Maßnahmen zur Unterbindung der Annexion seiner Gebiete ergreifen. Deswegen kann von freundschaftlichen Beziehungen mit einem Aggressor keine Rede sein“, resümiert Portnikow.

The Metinvest Group of Mr. Rinat Akhmetov has called on Ukrainian authorities to stop the ATO–in particular, the operation in Mariupol. “We believe that Ukrainian servicemen, as well as other armed people, should immediately leave the city,” announced the Akhmetov group. Metinvest also stated that “to maintain order in Mariupol, the Metinvest Group, together with the municipal police, will create people’s squads from among the employees of the metallurgical works.”
This scenario can be called nothing but provocation. Here’s why:
First of all, Mr. Akhmetov, a businessman, has no legal rights to form a private army. It would be inaccurate to compare this with the activity of the governors of Ukrainian oblasts [regions]. The latter have the right to participate in the formation of units of territorial defense, which are created under the law “On approval of the Presidential Decree,” “On partial mobilization,” and the Presidential Decree “On approval of the regulations on the territorial defense of Ukraine.” Thus, these territorial defense units are always included in the legitimate armed forces of Ukraine.
Metinvest, on the other hand, would create some undefined “people’s squads,” which have no legal status and will probably be subject to Mr. Akhmetov only. In this case, it’s unclear how Akhmetov’s “squads” are different from pro-Russian terrorist groups in Donbas in terms of the Act.
Second, the reasons by which Metinvest does not recognize the rights of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and other similar organizations to provide lawfulness and order in Donbas as a territory of the Ukrainian state, or explain why Akhmetov’s private army would have more rights to conduct such enforcement, are unclear.
Third, Metinvest advocates the withdrawal of “Ukrainian military and other armed individuals” from Mariupol. At the same time, it advocates for full control in the city by its “teams.” If these “teams” are armed, then it’s unclear where Metinvest obtained the weapons, and on what grounds it distributed them among civilians. If they are not armed, then the use of such “teams” against armed terrorists in the city is a provocation.
Fourth, the Metinvest statement about Akhmetov’s “teams” being formed “jointly with municipal police” is absolutely unclear. What type of “municipal police” are they talking about? The local Interior Ministry officials that pander to terrorists and are traitors? What right do they have to participate in the creation of armed formations not stipulated by Ukrainian legislation?
Overall, we’d like to state the following: the Metinvest announcement is absolutely incomprehensible and provocative. We observe that Mr. Akhmetov, just like some other Donbas oligarchs, is imposing his ideal scenario on Ukraine. Very important questions arise regarding this scenario, primarily of their adherence to the national interests of Ukraine.

Nach Angaben der Internet-Zeitung „OstroW“, die sich auf eigene Quellen in der Volksrepublik Donezk bezieht, wurden die bisherigen Anführer der Separatisten von Donezk von einem gewissen Sergei Zdriljuk abgesetzt, der sich als die „Rechte Hand“ des Kommandierenden der Kämpfer im Donbass Igor Strelkow (Girkin) bezeichnet.
Wie die Zeitung berichtet, hat der „Vertreter“ von Igor Strelkow (Girkin) die bisherigen Anführer unmittelbar nach dem „Referendum“ von der „Regierung“ abgesetzt.
„Am Sonntag hat es einen Putsch gegeben. Purgin, Ljagin und Makowtisch wurden von dem Entscheidungsprozess ausgeschlossen durch eine Gruppe von Leuten unter der Führung eins Menschen, der sich als Gehilfen von „Strelkow“ aus Slowjansk vorstellte“, so die Quelle.
Nach Angaben des Gesprächspartners wurde der für die Auszählung der Stimmen zuständige Roman Ljagin gewaltsam dazu gezwungen, die Ergebnisse des sog. „Referendums“ unverzüglich bekannt zu geben. Zuvor hatten Vertreter der Separatistenführer selbst zugegeben, dass „das, was in Slowjansk zu tun gelungen ist“, ohne Igor Strelkow nicht möglich gewesen wäre.
Wie bekannt verbirgt sich hinter dem Pseudonym „Strelkow“ nach Angaben des ukrainischen Geheimdienstes SBU der Oberst des russischen Militärgeheimdiensts GRU Igor Girkin.
