The powerful action of the Euromaidan Guard in Berlin

The powerful action of the Euromaidan Guard in Berlin.

The European Space has been keeping a close watch over activities in support of Euromaidan. There were a lot of them, all the world lived and continue living by Ukraine. Don’t you agree, how powerful the support of Ukrainian diaspora is, which not only follows the events, but in a creative way and by real deeds compels the attention of international community towards events in Ukraine and helps Maidan. Nataliya Schapeler, a political scientist and a co-founder of “Euromaidan Guard in Berlin”, told us how exactly Ukrainians of Germany act.

While the EU continues to stall over any serious sanctions, Russia is diversifying its efforts to destabilize Ukraine, with the government radio station Voice of Russia now citing alleged Polish and Hungarian “separatist” sentiments.  The new efforts are worryingly reminiscent of a scandalous suggestion put forward by Vladimir Zhirinovsky, deputy speaker of Russia’s State Duma.

In a letter sent to the governments of Poland, Romania and Hungary in March this year, Zhirinovsky suggested dividing Ukraine up according to the 1939 Nazi-Soviet pact, with Poland “reclaiming” the territory, now Ukraine, which until the invasions by Nazi Germany on Sep 1 1939 and USSR on Sep 17 had been under Polish rule.  The proposal was widely condemned in Poland with Tomasz Nałęcz, presidential adviser on historical issues, calling it the product of a sick mind and suggesting Zhirinovsky needed a psychiatrist.

Not Zhirinovsky alone, it would seem. continue reading…

Kyiv, April 30, 2014

eu

The vast majority of Ukrainians don’t support Russian intervention in Ukraine and think Ukraine should remain a united, unitary state with strong ties to the EU. These were the results of a recent survey conducted in Ukraine by the public opinion and market research company Baltic Surveys/The Gallup Organization on behalf of the International Republican Institute (IRI). Despite Russia’s claims to the contrary, almost two-thirds of Russian-speaking citizens and eastern Ukrainians don’t want Russian “protection”. More than half of Russian speakers strongly approve the interim government. According to IRI polling, there is a striking difference between the true opinions of Ukrainians and how they are being portrayed by Russian propaganda.
