Ukrainian Heroes: Vyshemirskiy Artem, wounded in Lysychansk

I have long been forcing myself to write about Artem … I couldn’t find the words [to do it].You could teach anatomy just by looking at his arm. Muscles and bones–all are visible. Tyomka [nickname for Artem] from Berdychiv. 24 [years old]. He is from the 95th Brigade. On July 19, their APC was ambushed under Lysychansk. Artem sustained terrible shrapnel wounds, even [got] shrapnel in his eyes. I tried to rewrite his epicrisis [case history], but at the end of my scribbling I just wrote–torn up. Doctors in Vinnytsia have already performed a huge number of skin grafts. Tyomka is already smiling and goes for a walk, but only God knows what torments he went through and if he is still suffering any pain. He will have quite a long-term rehabilitation. Money is needed … Today, he refused to give a television interview, although I asked him to do it. He is shy and just doesn’t realize what a hero he is! I’d really like to give him the opportunity to understand it. To show him that our people are proud of him! My friends, and those who aren’t friends as well, let’s give up some very important things to us and help Artem!

Privatbank Card#: 4149 4978 0332 6315 Vyshemirskiy Artem Mykolayovych.

For obvious reasons, I will give out his phone number only to adequate people. 🙂

By Sasha Sotnik, journalist, and nvua.net

Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

Citizens of Russia recorded video greetings to the people of Ukraine on their Independence Day [August 24th].

They congratulated Ukrainians as simple residents of Moscow, and those who had visited Independence Square [Maidan] during the winter. Joining in the congratulations is the Russian satirist, writer and human rights activist Victor Shenderovich; politician activist of Svoboda Mikhail Schneyder–one of the organizers of the Moscow rallies in the late 1980s and early 1990s and rallies on Chysti Stavky and Bolotnaya Square in 2011.

[Amongst those in the video are Ayder Muzhdabaev, a deputy editor at Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper; Maya Zavyalova, a representative of the Russian United Democratic Party, Yabloko; Eduard Kapchikaev, lawyer; Russian journalist, historian, radio host and priest Yakov Krotov; Aleksandr Shcherbakov, journalist; Sergei Sharov-Delone, public defender and a member of the May 6 Committee (Bolotnaya clashes)].

During the recording of the congratulations, police in Alexander Garden detained five people. Among those detained were the camera operator Vladimir Shreydler, a member of the Committee for Solidarity Olga Kurnosov, Sergei Sharshukov, Elena Vasilieva and Roman Roslovtsev.

At this current time, all the activists were released.

Law enforcement officials did not explain to any of the detainees the reason for their detention and removal to the police station in Chinatown.

The Department of Internal Affairs declined to comment on the incident.

The video is in Russian:

On August 24, 2014 Ukraine celebrates Independence Day. Russian citizens congratulate our brotherly people on this holiday. To these hearty and sincere congratulations, we, Sotnik-TV channel, also join. Happy Independence Day, free Ukraine!

Mustang Wanted: Performance art dedicated to Nadiya Savchenko and Ukrainian soldiers

By Mustang Wanted, roofer (Editor’s note: Roofing is the term for a kind of travel, which consists in walking on the roofs of a city’s skyscrapers)

Dear compatriots, dear Russians, as well as the valiant guards of law in Moscow. I, Hryhoriy (aka Mustang Wanted), a citizen of Ukraine, am forced to make this confession (without witticisms), aimed at the liberation of innocent Russian citizens accused of hooliganism, who risk becoming victims of the Russian justice system, which is well-known for its fairness.

I am the same man who in a fit of sincere patriotic sentiment climbed to the roof of the high-rise on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment, and repainted the star, decorating it in the colors of our native Ukrainian flag, and then also raised the flag of an independent Ukraine, of which I have photo and video evidence. This process proved to be quite time consuming and took me almost all night, I finished my work at about 6 am and happily went to sleep. The citizens of Russia, against whom a criminal case is now initiated, and who are facing 7 years, I saw at this time on the roof of the building [below], and it is also worth noting that we don’t even know each other. It is well-known that Russian court is the fairest trial in the world! [Editor’s note: see full story here]

I plead guilty to “hooliganism” and am ready to appear before this very court in exchange for the release of a wonderfully brave Ukrainian girl–Nadiya Savchenko.

She is absolutely innocent, and at least I painted the star.

I consider my action [to be] performance art and dedicate it to the Independence Day of Ukraine [August 24th], as well as to all the guys who defend my homeland now!

Glory to Ukraine!

Sincerely, Hrihoriy Mustang Wanted

The goal of the “humanitarian”convoy wasn’t bringing aid to civilians. It was robbery of Ukraine’s strategic defense equipment enterprises in Donetsk and Luhansk, specifically the “Topaz” company which produces modern radars such as “Kolchuga” and equipment from its Luhansk plant which produces ammunition for small arms.

Currently, according to the National Security Council, 184 trucks from the so-called “humanitarian convoy” have left Ukraine. All of them left without any verification by Ukrainian border guards.

The “Topaz” plant manufactures radar for air defense for which there are no analogues in the world.

Today is also the Day of the National Flag in Ukraine, or “Flag Day” and tomorrow, August 24th, is the Independence Day of Ukraine.
