Maidan Voted. Maidan Decided. – it is now war.

Crisis talks Thursday evening between boxer-turned-opposition-leader Vitali Klitschko and President Yanukovych went nowhere. Vitaly Klitschko, said that the president had made no concessions in the 4 hours of talk. Reuters quoted him as saying: “Hours of conversation were spent about nothing.” That appears to be the unanimous observation of anyone who talks with Yanukovych.

In other parts of Ukraine, the governor’s offices were stormed by local protesters shouting, “Banda, Het!” meaning “Gang, out!” in regards to Yanukovych’s crime family connections, in the cities of Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsya, Khmelnytskiy and Ivano-Frankivsk, while the governor of Lviv was made to sign his own resignation in the streets. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov accused protesters of trying to stage a coup and threatened to use “available resources” to restore ‘order’ [or at least business as usual].

Doctors from Uman, Ukraine (approx. 235 km from Kyiv) have offered to be a base of service for Maidan injured, including helping with transporting the  2.5 hours to Uman. They vow assurances that no Maidan victim will be surrendered to criminals (amidst many reports that victims are disappearing from hospitals or being taken to prisons from hospitals).

Klitschko Appeals to World Governments

In a letter sent to members of The Euromaidan Journalist Collective by a high-ranking member of the opposition Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform, the party’s leader, Vitali Klitschko, expresses concern at what he calls a war in Ukraine, and calls to action the world’s democratic governments. According to journalist Danylo Yanevsky of Hromadske.tv, the national assembly on Euromaidan declared its intention to make Vitali Klitschko interim president of Ukraine once their goal of deposing President Yanukovych is met. Klitschko’s letter of appeal is here:

They just confirmed what I’ve been saying from the first day: it’s not that people are going for the opposition, and the opposition is for the people. It’s the mood itself that radicalized. And if the government does not take decisive steps, the radicalization will soon cover most of the country. And there will be with no one with whom to talk.

and
This historic indifference. New Ukraine may still occur, but an understanding with Russia at the value level will never happen. Silence gives people nothing, but the whole nation, claiming common roots and attitudes at the most crucial moment for Ukrainians will create a very real chasm of alienation, from which it will not be so easy to go to sleep.

There are reports from a news site in the Russian Federation that President Putin is threatening to revoke its “bailout loan” if Ukraine’s President Yanukovych does not make concessions in dealing with the escalation of protests in recent days.

Map showing the Oblasts (regions) where protesters have surrounded/assaulted local govt buildings (green colour), or have occupied them (yellow colour) as of 15:00 (13:00 GMT):

The name of the second man who was beaten badly, stripped naked, mocked and photographed by Berkut forces, reported on earlier, is reported to be Mykhailo Havryliuk. He is a member of Maidan’s Self Defense. His trauma is not forgotten.

We will have more information to share on him a little later.

This is also happening now on Maidan:

Ruslana Lyzhychko
On Hrushevskoho were “trolls.”
They shout down any of the speakers.
They call “for action” and disappear.
Most come for an hour or two and then leave the territory of resistance.
They do not return to Maidan square, nor to Hrushevskoho.
They do not stand at night and are not seen on duty.
Each such “revolutionary” needs some careful attention.
Trust only those whom you know personally.

While the ceasefire still holds, protesters have some time to continue reading and studying on the barricades,  in -13C weather. (We’ve been seeing photos of people reading all over Kyiv’s Maidan).

They say necessity is the mother of invention and Ukrainians have always been a very creative and practical people. Street Shields for the street revolution… What’s even better is the one on the left is the stop for European Square…only one way to go! These boys from the self-defense are literally on the European Field (or will go above and beyond it)!

Today is a day of urgent global appeals from all Ukrainians, Facebook is buzzing with personal appeals to talk to local governments the world over. Please watch these and then stop watching and reading and ACT:

First up is an appeal from EuroMaidan themselves to the global community. Please click on the link and read and follow their links:

None of us are fascists, extremists, terrorists or criminals, it’s just the right thing to do, the only thing to do when faced with fascists, extremists, criminals….

And if a 10 year old boy can do it, so can you and your children!!!

Oblasts and government districts continue to fall to protesters in Ukraine. Reports of a couple of Party of Regionals members resigning now. Maidan stands strong, it’s full. Hrushevsky is being well-manned by self-defense and keeping up the nightly acrid tyre smoke that is sure to poison lungs, so far the wind is in our favor. The temperatures are frigid, it was -17C today and down to -21C overnight. One can’t but respect the absolute stamina and determination. Have you seen how those boys are dressed? Yes, stamina. Ok two shots at 11:10 Kyiv time:

On Hrushevskoho now, 11:10 Kyiv time.

Maidan now - it's full. 11:10 Kyiv time.
