Roma, 14 years old, belongs to the Roma [people]. He has been on Maidan from the beginning. This boy from Kyiv Oblast first saw the events at home on television and then decided to go [to Maidan]. He helped with security, brought tea to the barricades and water to the tents and chopped wood.
But what is interesting is that Roma is periodically picked up by the police, passed on to social services and is then delivered back to his home, back to his parents. The boy runs away again like this every time, to Kyiv, to Maidan.
His parents are already used to this and are not worried because his 25-year-old cousin is already there. He watches out for Roma. Roma has a big family—two sisters and five brothers. I talked with several people on Maidan about the boy. Everyone said only positive things about him. They make sure that he is bathed, that he has eaten, and that he is in warm clothes. They don’t hide him from social services, but every time, Roma ends up returning to Maidan.
The boy says that he has already been called to go see the Director of his school because he missed lessons. How does he answer? “You sit here while I stand there, so don’t bother me.” And what do you say to this? He said that he won’t leave Maidan until he reaches his goal.
Ukrainians don’t give up. The struggle continues. Get involved, don’t waste your future. If you are not able to visit the confrontation in Kyiv, help those who want to get there and those who are there.

Ukraine needs exactly this kind of spirit in its leadership, not just its underground! Hopefully Roma will be president of Ukraine at some point! What an inspiration! I’m forwarding stories about this boy to my 12 year old daughter here in the US; hopefully she will marry a boy like him someday!
