Yulia Tymoshenko’s a statement in connection with the events in Odesa:
Today the wave of violence again reached its crest on the streets of Ukraine and our beloved Odesa is under threat. Peaceful demonstrators were attacked by people wanting to turn Ukraine into a war zone and batter and dismember our country.
We will not let that happen! I will not let that happen! This is my promise to the mothers and wives of Odesa, Donetsk, Luhansk and the whole country.
The brave sons of Ukraine who lost their lives defending Ukraine today are in our hearts and souls. They have become the standard bearers of my struggle to defend Ukraine from now and into the future. They will be in my thoughts as I carry on the struggle for the unity, peace and independence of our beloved country.
The invasion will be stopped. Violence will be defeated. We will not allow Ukraine to be turned into either Hungary in 1956 or Yugoslavia in the 1990s. No one will be able to stop us building a united, European and democratic government. It’s not important what language we speak, which church we go to or what political party we support: we are all Ukrainians, all patriots and we must join together in this most decisive moment in the history of our country, the lives of our families and our personal destinies. Glory to Ukraine!
Julia Timoshenko cut short her visit to Lviv and is headed to Odesa.
