The police are investigating the circumstances and reasons surrounding the death of Euromaidan activist Yuri Verbitsky in Kyiv Region (Boryspil District). According to the Kyiv Region (Boryspil District) police press service, a criminal death proceeding is investigated under the article 115 of Penal Code (intended killling).

Doctors claim that the intermediate cause of death is hypothermia,
“The bodily injuries and his death are not connected,” proclaimed regional police.

The police press service underlined that they are looking for any witnesses, who could give any information about this crime. The central police office’s representatives also added they are considering any version. “One of them concerns the group of people who cast around Kyiv and kidnap people from hostels. They could have taken Yuri,” added police representatives.

Verbitsky was kidnapped from the Oleksandrivska Hospital together with the activist Ihor Lutsenko early on January 21. Lutsenko brought Verbitsky, with ocular trauma, to the Hospital. Unknown men kidnapped Verbitsky and Lutsenko. According to Lutsenko, they were taken to an undisclosed location, held in a garage and beaten. Lutsenko, with a plastic bag on his head, was told to kneel down and left alone. He managed to reach some village and posted on Facebook that he is alive. After his release, Lutsenko reported that Verbitsky’s case could be much worse. He was treated much more badly because of his Lviv citizenship.
Later, Verbitsky’s body was found in Boryspil District of Kyiv Region
