Pastor Sergey Kosyak: In spite of everything we were able to evacuate 100 people today

Today was a day I will never forget. We were evacuating from the hot zones in Donetsk and Hirlovka. Some people left their homes still intact, some homes were half destroyed, some left behind mere ruins which they used to call their home. Whatever the case, people were leaving for free Ukraine, planning to build new lives in their own home country. To my great disappointment “free Ukraine” greeted their citizens with the steel armor of animosity.

Today I decided not to take any chances and went to greet the buses carrying the elderly, women and children, at the Hirlovka/Artemivsk checkpoint by the settlement of Kurdyumivka. That particular checkpoint is attended by Ukrainian border guards, police, and representatives of Ukrainian State Security, not the military. My first encounter with our “defenders” took place as I entered the checkpoint. At the checkpoint, in addition to my vehicle, there was also a military transport. I saw a uniformed man, attending the checkpoint, wave his hand and I interpreted it as, go ahead and pull up. Turns out, he had his own opinion on the matter. First he chewed me out that I failed to understand his signal, and that he was addressing the driver in the military transport, not me. And since I didn’t understand his sign-language, he would make me wait for 3 1/2 hours. After waiting for a bit, I asked, “Why doesn’t anyone help me?” To which he replied, “I told you, you have to wait for 3 1/2 hours.” When I asked him why, he answered, “Because I said so.” To which I said, “Maybe it was you, the other day, letting a burst out in the air from your automatic weapon, threatening to shoot innocent women, children and old folks….” At this, the officer tensed up, and used his radio to relay that the evacuation buses’ envoy was there. The day before, I used Ministry of Public Emergency channels to communicate all necessary information regarding our buses. Turns out, the border guards do not answer to the Department of Defense, and so the buses carrying over 100 people were stopped yet again. In front of the checkpoint you could see dozens of vehicles and hundreds of people applying for their passes, which were supposedly going to be done in “ten days.”

It was at this point that an epic 6-hour long saga commenced. I took my time explaining that we specialize in evacuating elderly, women and children, that these people are not able to wait for the required ten days, that they are running away from certain death and are looking for refuge in the unoccupied territories. All I was able to hear back was, “I can’t do anything, we have orders.” I asked them then, “What if these buses were carrying your mothers, your children? What then? Would you be still following your orders? Are you intelligent people or dogs obeying simple commands like ‘Fetch!?’ ” I was neither listened to nor heard, whether I was asking nicely or not. One of them did reply, “If I let you in, I will lose my rank,” to which I replied, “You may lose your rank, but keep your honor and conscience!” Unfortunately, officers’ honor and conscience were not as near and dear to them as was covering their own behinds and keeping their precious ranks.

I called everyone I knew: the military, volunteers, administration. They all did what they could. For six hours, our buses were detained in the cold, the kids were crying, women were in hysterics, the elderly were feeling sick, the drivers were anxious that they would not have enough time to return before the curfew. Some women were begging to be let through – their kids had high fever, infants needed to be fed. Not a single appeal was heard. Everyone was told, “As soon as our orders change, we will let you through.”

I am not sure which one of my contacts worked, but after multiple verifications and record taking, we were allowed to get through the checkpoint. While the writing of the lists was taking place, I just stood there, watching these people as they were standing in a long line, out in the cold, going through this “census,” and felt very sad. How is it, that we, citizens of Ukraine, were reduced to the status of mindless cattle. This ‘ten-day pass law’ is in direct violation of the Constitution of Ukraine, Article 33: “Every person residing within the territory of Ukraine legally, is guaranteed the freedom of movement, freedom to choose place of residence, freedom to leave the territory of Ukraine, with the exception of certain limitations made by the government. A citizen of Ukraine will not be deprived of his right to….” And here we were, deprived of our right. Martial law hasn’t been established for fear that as soon as it happens the politicians would not receive credits in the government budget, which, every once in a while, gets embezzled from. New laws and rules are being passed, but nobody bothers to figure out a way to help people keep them. The generals are trading the lives of human beings for yet another star and an opportunity to cover their butts. BUT. We are Ukrainians. We are a freedom loving nation. We are not cattle, we are humans, we are not toys in the hands of our politicians, we are alive. Our children deserve to live in a different Ukraine, where the rights and values of human life form the foundation of its government.

Tomorrow, there is a meeting planned with the staff of the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Kramatorsk to discuss the details of future evacuations. Yet even that is not as important as them starting to see us and treat us as humans vs. mindless cattle. So many precious lives have already been given in the fight for the freedom and the future of Ukraine. They have been talking about the Debaltseve hot spot for two whole months; they allowed for hundreds of warriors to be left fallen there, yet during the peacetalks and ceasefire deals Debaltseve was given up. And yet, these same “generals” are successfully waging war against women, children, and old folks, seeing each one of them as evil terrorists.

In spite of all this, we were able to evacuate about 100 people today. En route to our refugee camp, I listened to yet another family tell about their multistory apartment building near the Donetsk airport. How it was bombed, how they and their children were hiding in the cellars, and how they thanked God for people like us. Today’s evacuation turned out to be quite a bit more expensive than usual – 11,000 UAH (about $406) since we had to pay the drivers for overtime and their hotel stay – they didn’t make it back in time before the curfew. But you know what, it’s just money, money that gets converted into the rescued souls of living human beings.

Dmitry Tymchuk: Military update 2.18 #FreeSavchenko

Operational data from Information Resistance:

Fierce fighting continues in the vicinity of Debaltseve. To take this settlement under its control, the Russian-terrorist troop command threw all of its reserves into the fight.

For example, in Stakhanov, which previously held large concentrations of local insurgents and Russian mercenaries, as well as weapons and equipment, by the morning of 02.18.2015, there remained only 300 terrorists at maximum, 2 BM-21 “Grad” vehicles (not combat-ready) and a mortar battery – other forces and resources were deployed near Debaltseve. A similar situation is in Horlivka, where all the resources were also transferred to the vicinity of Debaltseve (in particular, 11 tanks and 5 AFVs got moved from this area into Kalynivka and the area north of Vuhlehirsk). A “reinforcement” for insurgents passed from Donetsk to Yenakiieve through Yasynuvata – about 300 people, 4 tanks, 2 ZU-23-2, 3 trucks with D-30 towed howitzers, 2 BMP-2, 2 BTR-80, and 4 covered trucks. This manpower and vehicles were gathered in two districts of Donetsk (Petrovsky and Kuibyshev) to participate in the Debaltseve operation.

A new strike tactical force of Russian-terrorist troops which IR has reported about, who arrived earlier in Verhulivka yesterday morning (February 17, 2015) along with another company tactical group that operated here before, went on the offensive. Another enemy tactical group (up to two reinforced companies) hit Debaltseve from the northeast. Overall, the enemy has used about 25 tanks, up to 35 ACVs with the support of 3 artillery battalions in the fight (up to 40 barrel artillery and 12 MLRS units). As a result, the enemy was able to break into the city and initiate street combat there. The enemy continues to maintain fire control of the road between Debaltseve and Artemivsk from towering heights (towering (command) height 307.9 is also occupied by the enemy) and prevents the units defending themselves inside the city from re-supply. By yesterday evening, the Ukrainian artillery inflicted fire strikes on enemy combat formations in the vicinity of Lohvynove and east of Debaltseve.

On the outer perimeter of the bridgehead in the vicinity of Faschivka, Ukrainian troops repulsed an attempt by Russian-terrorist forces to attack a Ukrainian checkpoint. As a result of return fire by Ukrainian servicemen, a terrorist BMP-2 (it was abandoned by the crew) and a BTR- 70 (finished off from an RPG) have been destroyed. The enemy has been driven back with thick flank fire to its [former] start line.

In the vicinity of Shyrokyne, having occupied a tall residential building near the village yesterday morning, a division of Russian-terrorist forces began to carry out attacks on Ukrainian positions with two mortars. Two hours later, the division was shot down by Ukrainian troops and began to retreat toward Novoazovsk. As a result of return fire by Ukrainian troops, another terrorist group moved back to the northeast from the eastern edge of Shyrokyne under the cover of two tanks. One of the tanks was put out of action by the fire of Ukrainian units ([it] was evacuated).

East of Luhansk, a group of armored vehicles was recorded on the march, heading south. The group included 3 tanks, 4 BMP-2, a BMP-1, 2 BTR-80, and 5 covered trucks. This “demo” terrorist group has been put in place to depict a “withdrawal of heavy weapons” by Russian-terrorist forces “in execution of Minsk agreements.”

The ‘DNR’ [Donetsk people’s republic] police are trying to ban the formerly disabled insurgents (particularly with torn off limbs) from appearing in public. At the moment, the “policemen” are trying to conduct “outreach” activities, urging disabled terrorists to seldom leave their homes. Several conflicts over this have been observed.

About the Ukrainian authorities’ response to Ukrainian blogger Kotsaba

By Anna-Lisa Ryaboshapka
02.08.2015
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

Ahem… My friends it seems that as well as the threat of a third world war we have a few other unpleasantries.

I am talking about the wild, callous story of Ruslan Kotsaba.

Everything about this matter is completely disgusting.

Starting with Kotsaba’s actual statement. This a case where not discussing it (which in general I like) is desired, but beating someone up banally (this, I totally dislike).

But. In this case (of those charges that are known for now), Kotsaba has done NOTHING was criminally violated, to put it in block print. As far as we know he did not trade arms, did not send insurgents a humanitarian convoy with love, and did not even allow them through the border, waving a white envelope with a green packet. Right?

He voiced his vatnik [Russian nationalistic], and absolutely unacceptable for me, position. He made some video. That’s all? That’s all.

You don’t put someone on trial in PEACETIME for making a video. Even if that video is vile. It isn’t treason.

In a free country (yes?) they do not create a Ministry of Information, but if they should suddenly create one, it’s a chance for them to do some work. So take a a moment to escape from the service of His High Importance and work on the homeland.

Make dozens of films for each one that Kotsaba makes. For each piece of information-stuffing, answer with dozens of reasoned articles, notes and interviews. Then we would be told ‘well done,’ and they would be called ‘scoundrels.’ It would be self-evident.

But, no. They selected the most disastrous, stupid and senseless way of shutting the vatnik [Russian nationalist] up. To try him! Don’t allow it!

I would not even have heard of this Kotsaba if our precious authorities had not set up this stupid exhibitionist punishment. You sentence him so that afterwards a smart advertising campaign can make of this little-known character a “martyr for the idea.” Khuylo and the Drudge Horse have embraced and are already applauding.

And a couple of cherries on the cake, a pair of obvious questions:

  1. Will they try me if I should (suddenly) write that I do not agree with the policy of His High Importance? And how long will they give me? Note, I am not even asking, on what basis. Well, I am just curious about what to get ready for: how many crackers to lay out as a result of my disloyalty.
  2. Is it hard for the Highly Respected SBU to see the persons who are actually financing the war and separatism? Of course I could point out a couple of dozen names but I am frightened that they will accuse me of “high treason” for giving their names.

I repeat. This matter is completely disgusting. It is particularly disgusting to see it becoming a trend. The method of the authorities continuing to claim that they are the result of the Revolution of Dignity.

Russia continues to openly recruit and send mercenaries for its war in Ukraine. PHOTOreport.

By Censor.net
02.13.2015
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

In Yekaterinburg, in plain sight under the auspices of the Spetsnaz Veterans’ Fund, mercenaries are being recruited for the war in Donbas.

This is stated in a report of the local edition 66.ru, according to Censor.NET.

“On February 12 around 14:00, so around the same time when president Putin was talking about the results of the Minsk negotiations, in Yekaterinburg an organisational gathering was held of a company of terrorists who are preparing to be sent into the ‘DNR’ [Donetsk People’s Republic]. The news that on February 15 the shooting should cease was taken by the future militants calmly, sometimes even with a grin,” – says the publication.

“I asked one of them: ‘Why are you going to war if there is a truce?’ He replied: “Do you really think that this war will end with this?” – says the author of the report.

The news from Minsk did not affect the preparations for the deployment of the unit at all. In the auditorium of the School of the Olympic Reserve, around 40 people gathered – the future company of the terrrorists. There were no young hotheads at all – all the men were aged 30 to 60. Some already had grey hair. They were dressed in different ways as well – some were dressed very modestly, others quite well. The ethnic composition is surprising: among slavic faces, you can also see eastern and southern types. From the talk it is clear: several people have arrived in Russia from the near-abroad countries.

The mercenaries asked not to have their faces photographed – they only allowed their backs to be filmed.

Vladimir Efimov

Vladimir Efimov

“The gathering is organized by Vladimir Efimov – chairman of the Sverdlovsk regional fund of invalids and veterans of the special forces. It is he who will take command of one of the battalions of the “Phantom” brigade (brigadier general – Mozgovoi Alexei Borisovich), which will be joined by the newly formed company “Black Knives.” All who are present at the meeting have held preliminary telephone interviews. According to Vladimir Efimov, he constantly receives phone calls from people who want to go to Donbas, so as someone who has already done some fighting, he had to take upon himself the organization of the deployment of such terrorist groups. He declined many. First of all – young people, guys who did not serve in the army. He also didn’t take those who had a criminal past and are generally set for looting. When asked to raise their hands if they have already served, it turned out that there are more than half of these here. And around a dozen have already participated in battles in Donbas”, says the publication.

“This meeting is the last stage before being sent to the combat zone. The militants fill out applications and short questionnaires. There they mention their combat experience and military speciality which the terrorists learned while serving in the army (I don’t think there are any here who have not served). Later there is a short lecture on where exactly the company is heading and what it will be doing. And also clarification of the details of future military life. The militants are to fight in the area of the Debaltseve encirclement. According to one of the terrorists who has come back from there, after recent battles the brigade which the Yekaterinburg mercenaries are set to join, suffered heavy losses – many wounded and killed. But the commander specifies that their company will be placed in an operational reserve and will be used as a rapid response unit”, – explained the author of the report.

“Nevertheless, almost the main questions for the terrorists were: ‘When will we be given weapons?,’ ‘Will we be allowed to keep them all the time on our persons?’ and ‘How many rifles will the company be given?’ It turns out that many of those present here have encountered a shortage of weapons in the ‘DNR’ and heard that specifically the ‘Phantom’ brigade has issues in this regard. Vladimir Efimov promises that there will be plenty of weaponry, but the terrorists will only receive it on the territory of the ‘Donetsk republic.’ Separately they stipulate the issue of joining a ‘DNR’ gang and receiving payment for the service. Vladimir Efimov immediately states a reservation: this violates the law of the Russian Federation on mercenaries and implies criminal liability upon return. From the hall shouting is heard: ‘And what if I want to remain there?’ The commander says that those who want to start a new life and make a career in a terrorist gang will have to decide on that for themselves while there, since that is their own personal business. There are opportunities for it, but, in swearing an oath to the ‘DNR,’ the volunteer actually violates the oath of the Russian Federation – there is such a legal nuance,’ – notes the newspaper.

This is the eldest fighter. He is 61 years old. He jokes about himself that he will go in front of the other fighters and will sprinkle sand on the road so that it is not slippery. But in all seriousness, the man said, he is ready to carry out any orders of the commanders.

“There is a separate conversation regarding what the terrorists should take with them. In short – everything. Besides the ‘instrument.’ Mugs, spoons, knives, bowls, underwear, camo and sports wear, shoes, carrying vests, helmets and armour (if they have it), torches, travel mats, medicines and dressings, a supply of food, sleeping bags, even a shovel for digging trenches. Vladimir Dmitrievich clarifies: if you do not have something, you will of course be provided it. The donors have sent both new sets of uniforms, and food, and medicines. But all of this is always lacking in the ‘DNR.’ And it is better to bring it with you than to run around the conflict zone later searching for AntiGrippin or for a headlamp”, – the journalist said.

“Judging by the conversations, there are many experienced gunners and mortarmen here. Having found each other, they begin to discuss the features of artillery systems and to guess in advance which howitzers and mortars they will have to deal with in the ‘DNR,’” – says the publication.

Liza Bogutskaya: The END of Russia has come

Liza Bogutskaya, blogger
02.15.2015
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

Starting today, Russia has signed its own death warrant. [Russian] troop movements are being observed from all satellites, bridgeheads, missions, etc.

The mousetrap has worked.

POROSHENKO made an announcement at night. I listened. Millions were glued to their TVs and listened. [I] read somewhere that we have NEVER in 23 years [of independent Ukraine] wanted to hear [our] PRESIDENT so much!

I understood why everything was recorded on camera then and shown to us. It was broadcast not only in Ukraine. We have witnesses for what EVERYONE HEARD! What each sector on the frontline heard. What the terrorists heard. What the regular Russian army heard. What [people] in Europe and America heard.

We have sealed our part of the agreement by [our] President’s statement.

Now we wait.

Poroshenko warned Putin in such a serious manner, that I now do not doubt for a second that the END of Russia has come.

If peace comes, Putin will have a lot to explain to his people: why, for what reason, what for, and whom … If he continues to act, then he will expose Russia itself to the blow and make it a theater of war.

Now all the ratings of the Tsar will plunge down into the abyss, in which he so carefully drove his state during the entire duration of his reign.
