Operational data from Information Resistance:

Russian-terrorist troops in Donbas continue actively shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops, as well as civilian objects, including the use of heavy armaments in a number of areas. At the same time, an increase is observed in the number of terrorist shellings with the use of small arms, which are recorded practically along the entire demarcation line.

The most intense shellings by militants were recorded to the west and northwest of Donetsk, in areas south of Donetsk (Berezove, Hranitne), in the vicinity of Horlivka, near the Svitlodarsk bridgehead, in the seaside areas, as well as in the area from  Zolote and Orikhove to Shchastya and Stanytsia Luhanska. Units of Russian-terrorist troops are also highly active between the settlements of Novomykhailivka and Peremoha, in the vicinity of Krasnohorivka, Lozove, southeast of Pisky, near Opytne and Vodyane, south and north of Avdiivka, and in the vicinity of Troitske, Shumy, and Leninske.

In particular, the militants have deployed 120 mm mortars in the area of Novomykhailivka, southeast of Mar’inka, and in the vicinity of Pisky, Opytne, Avdiivka, and Leninske. Armored vehicles advanced towards the ATO forces’ positions several times, under cover of mortar fire – two tanks fired on the advanced positions of Ukrainian troops near Pisky for 20 minutes; one tank and two BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles shelled the ATO positions near Opytne for 30 minutes (during this shelling, two 125 mm munitions fired by the militants’ tank detonated in the settlement of Vodyane).

Terrorists deployed 122 mm artillery for brief fire strikes against the ATO forces’ strongholds near Troitske, between the Horlivka – Artemivsk motorway (in the area of Kurdyumivka – Zelenopillya), and on the positions near Hranitne. Two strikes were also made on Krasnohorivka.

In the vicinity of Avdiivka, the ATO forces were shelled from 122 mm and 152 mm artillery, and 120 mm mortars. On the first line (closer to Yasynuvata), a terrorist tank group was spotted maneuvering (without opening fire).

In the area of the Svitlodarsk bridgehead, militants used mortars (82 mm and 120 mm) against the advanced ATO positions near Popasna and Luhanske; AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers were deployed against the positions of Ukrainian troops south of Svitlodarsk.

A terrorist armored group (3 tanks) was operating in the vicinity of Shchastya, supported by 82 mm mortars from the direction of Vesela Hora. The armored group shelled the settlement of Shchastya, with advance and retreat of the armored vehicles being supported by AGS-17 grenade launchers. During combat, several militant infantry groups were spotted moving towards and along the demarcation line. These enemy groups opened fire against the ATO forces’ advanced positions, in a number of instances.

A group of “specialists from Russia” has emerged in Luhansk, focused on organizing contraband supplies of food from Ukraine-controlled territory. The group includes 16 people, including 3 women; they are predominantly representatives of the FSB and other Russian authorities. This group has no permanent dislocation, takes special effort to avoid attracting attention (the group members are dressing to look like “local militants”), are moving around aboard two Volkswagen T-4 minibuses with tinted windows (without license plates), two Tiger GAZ-2330 armored combat vehicles, and a “civilian” jeep. Members of these group are reportedly questioning the “LNR” [Luhansk People’s Republic] “businessmen” and “officials” involved in smuggling for information about any corrupt Ukrainian military servicemen (officials in commanding authorities, as well as members of private corps at checkpoints) who are participating in contraband schemes (possibly, to recruit them in the future under threat of blackmail). The local “Ministry of state defense” has been ordered to “provide extensive cooperation” to this group without interfering in its activities. The commanders of the group are in regular contact with the “LNR” leadership, while some of the group members are regularly visiting the “front line.” A similar special group from Russia has been spotted in Donetsk.

Operational data from Information Resistance:

Russian-terrorist forces in Donbas continue to actively shell both the advanced positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian objects, using small arms, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, 122 mm and 152 mm artillery, and armored vehicles.

During the last 24 hours, terrorists used six groups of armored vehicles (including tanks):

• In the area of Donetsk airport and the settlement of Opytne, two armored groups were observed (one group included three tanks, six IFVs and APCs, and the other group – two tanks and up to 10 IFVs and APCs). These armored groups fired on the positions of ATO forces from dispersed firing positions in the dark;

• Two more armored groups of militants operate in the vicinity of Mar’inka (one group includes at least eight tanks, another – two tanks);

• In the area of Hranitne an armored group operates on the first line – up to a tank company [in size] (5-6 tanks operating on the forefront) and about 10 ACVs (mainly BMP-2). A short shelling from two tanks and a BMP-2 (30 mm automatic cannon) from the greenery was observed in this area ;

• Another armored group (up to a tank company in size, 6-7 tanks) operates in the area of the  Svitlodarsk springboard from the direction of Luhanske and Myronivske. In this area, terrorists usually operate armored vehicles in combinations of “tanks + mortars.”

During the last 24 hours, the following armed confrontations were observed:

• In the vicinity of Troitske and south of Verkhnotoretske the enemy made two attempts to infiltrate ATO forces’ combat formations using two infantry groups (each up to a reinforced platoon in size, about 28-30 persons) under cover of 120 mm mortars. The enemy was driven back to its original positions by [the] return fire [of Ukrainian troops];

• In the area of ChermalykMykolayivka, the enemy followed the same scenario. A militant infantry group went into the greenery and then attempted to move closer to the positions of Ukrainian troops under cover of mortar fire by pretending to launching an intrusion to divert attention from its sabotage and reconnaissance group, which at that time was attempting infiltration on a neighboring/an adjacent site. After return fire, the infantry group and the sabotage and reconnaissance group of militants retreated to the starting line.

In the coastal areas (the area between ChermalykMykolaivka), terrorists actively operate with several infantry groups from the greenery in the neutral zone, with support fire from 120 mm mortars and 122 mm artillery, trying to get closer to the positions of the ATO forces at a distance of effective fire. Militant use of AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers and ZU-23-2 mobile antiaircraft systems on transport platforms was observed in the area.

South of Donetsk (in the area of Berezove, Hranitne, and Staromariyvka), [Russia-backed] militants continue their armed provocations, trying to identify the configuration and firepower in the defense system of Ukrainian troops. In particular, the militants carry out short raids in the area from 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, 122 mm artillery, and use small groups of armored vehicles (2-3 tanks, 3-4 BBMs), trying to provoke return fire in order to determine the locations of firepower, and the engineering installations of the ATO forces.

Most of the terrorist shelling and armed provocations are carried out in a wide area from Mar’inka up to the northwestern outskirts of Horlivka. In fact, in this entire bend, militants carry out fire strikes in a permanent mode, using various means of destruction.

During the past 24 hours, the enemy used its artillery batteries from positions in the vicinity of Yasynuvata and Spartak and fired from 122 mm and 152 mm artillery at the positions of Ukrainian troops to the southwest of Avdiivka, in its northern outskirts, near Opytne, Vodyane, and to the northeast of Pisky. Terrorists fired from 120 mm and 82 mm mortars in the area of Krasnohorivka, Lozove, Leninske, and Shumy.

Terrorists opened fire, from 82 mm mortars 2B9 “Vasilek” and 120-mm mortars, onto the positions of the ATO forces in the vicinity of Kurdyumivka and Zelenopillya. Following the recent fire raid on Svitlodarsk and the Vuhlehirsk thermal power plant, the enemy periodically conducts “harassing” fire from small arms, AGS-17, anti-tank grenade launchers, and 82 mm mortars in the area (a similar pattern is observed in the area of Luhanske, Popasna, Zolote).

The enemy is gradually increasing the number of troops and military equipment in several locations simultaneously – the area of StakhanovPervomaiskKirovsk (the regrouping of armored vehicles was recorded), troops and artillery are transferred to the area of ZhelobokFrunze, and also in the vicinity of Shchastya and Stanytsia Luhanska (near Khrystove and Obozne).

In the coastal areas, two large terrorist military equipment bases were created in Sakhanka (23-25 vehicles, including 8 tanks) and Bezimenne (up to 30 combat vehicles, including 11-12 tanks). According to the IR group, these actions by Russian-terrorist troop command call for the special attention of the Ukrainian military and political leadership in the context of the “demilitarization of Shyrokyne.”

According to updated data, a militant combat training battalion is currently deployed near Mospyne. [The battalion] includes a reinforced consolidated tank company (up to 15 tanks of various modifications of T-64 and T-72) and 22 other vehicles, which corresponds to the typical range of weapons of a Russian Armed Forces infantry battalion. The unit is supplied through Starobesheve and Ilovaisk.

Between Lutuhyne and Novofedorivka, six 152-mm 2S3 “Akatsiya” self-propelled guns and four transport and loading vehicles were recorded on march. The convoy maintained disguise on the march and drove off the roads in the dark. While in the deep rear, the battery moved with combat outposts – three BTR-80 with infantry in armored vehicles.

During the last 24 hours, militants transferred four trailers with T-72B tanks, four BTR-80, two BMP-1, two BMP-2, four BTR-80A, two BMP-97 “Vystrel,” a GAS-2330 “Tigr,” and three BRDM-2 to the area of Luhansk from the direction of Krasnodon.

In Horlivka, Yenakijeve, and Makiivka, the “DNR” leadership is actively conducting recruitment and propaganda work among the taxi drivers, transport companies, and private contractors to draw them into the ranks of the “DNR army” as cargo drivers. They are promised a guaranteed income and a “high status as a DNR Army serviceman.”

Operational data from Information Resistance:

Russian-terrorist troops (RTT) in Donbas continue to carry out active shellings of the advanced positions, command posts, and bases of Ukrainian troops and civilian objects by using artillery (122 mm and 152 mm), 120 mm mortars, and armored vehicles.

Most of the terrorist attacks and armed provocations were recorded in the western and north-western outskirts of Donetsk, Horlivka, and west of Yasynuvata.

Thus, during the last 24 hours, militants have repeatedly carried out attacks on the positions of ATO forces north of Novhorodske and near the village itself, in the vicinity of Leninske and Artemove from 120 mm mortars and 122 mm artillery. Spotters of Russian-terrorist forces were observed within close range of the shellings.

The positions of Ukrainian troops  in the area of Lozove, Vodyane, Opytne, and in the area north of Avdiivka were shelled from 122 mm artillery (in addition, residential areas in Avdiivka were also repeatedly shelled from 122 mm and 152 mm artillery.

In the area of Mar’inka, Opytne and Vodyane, the activities of several groups of enemy armored vehicles were recorded. In the area of Mar’inka, from the direction of Oleksandrivka, an armored group (two tanks and one BMP-2) was operating – shelling ATO positions from the “greenery,”advancing and leaving firing positions under cover of 82 mm mortars (tank guns made 5-6 shots each, and a BMP [infantry fighting vehicle] fired to provide cover).

In the area of Opytne, the enemy moved several armored vehicles (two T-64B tanks) to firing positions in the “greenery” in advance, after dark. Following additional reconnaissance, insurgents opened fire from their tank guns, after which the tanks retreated to their original line of defense in the depths of the RTT [Russian terrorist troops].

The positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Pervomaiske were shelled from 152 mm artillery. The enemy shelled the positions [of Ukrainian troops] near Vodyane, Pisky, and Opytne with 120 mm mortars (mainly aiming at shelters, blindages, and trenches).

In the area of Berezove and Hranitne, the enemy repeatedly opened fire from small arms, 82 mm mortars, AGS-17, and several times used ZU-23-2. The regrouping of RTT infantry groups was spotted along the front in this sector.

In the coastal area in the section between Sakhanka and Shyrokyne, several firefights with small arms were observed. To the north of this area, near Chermalyk and Mykolaivka, the enemy moved mortars to the front line (both 82 mm and 120 mm [calibers]) – at minimum, three firing positions of militant mortar units were observed (overall – up to six 82 mm mortars and about eight 120 mm mortars).

On the Svitlodarsk bridgehead, militants carry out attacks from small arms and AGS-17. On the bridgehead’s flank, from the direction of Luhansk, militants regrouped armored vehicles outside of Kalynove, south of Rozsadky, and in the area between Pervomaisk and Zolote (to the northwest of Kirovsk). The [exact] number of armored vehicles is currently being determined. Beyond the PopasnaStakhanov highway in the area between Irmino and Kirovsk, the transfer of a tank group, in the northward direction – up to five vehicles – was observed.

In the area between Novhorodske and Leninske an attempt by an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group (10-12 people) to infiltrate ATO forces’ battle formations was observed. Discovered by a combat outpost of Ukrainian troops, the sabotage and reconnaissance group was forced to retreat to its original line after a firefight.

In the area of Novotoshkivka and Krymske, militants fired from 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, and carried out ‘harassing fire’ from small arms. In the wide area from Popasna to Stanytsia Luhanska, along both banks of the Seversky Donets [river], a “warfare of small groups” continues – a large number of terrorist sabotage and reconnaissance groups and raid teams was observed.

In Donetsk, the transfer of terrorist mortar units (three 120 mm and two 82 mm mortars) was spotted along the “frontline” on Shvedov Avenue towards the northeast.

In the area of Prymorske, terrorists deployed and disguised their artillery. Two batteries (a 6-weapon [battery] of 122 mm D-30 howitzers, and a four 152 mm 2A65 “MSTA-B” [battery]) were observed.

Between Sverdlovsk and Rovenky, two tactical groups of Russian troops were observed. One [group] is staffed by the Russian Airborne Forces (composed of two 120 mm 2S9 “Nona-S” airborne self-propelled guns, four BTR-D and six BMD-2). The second [group] included two BMR-1K combat reconnaissance vehicles, two BMP-2, four army trucks, and two jeeps.

The transfer of agricultural vehicles and equipment is conducted from Russia to the areas controlled by the “DNR” and “LNR” [Donetsk- and Luhansk People’s Republics]. The transfer of agricultural vehicles was observed in Amvrosiivka, Krasnodon, and Rovenky. Harvesting is underway in the southern occupied areas of Luhansk region; the presence of Russian experts was observed.

Lawyer Ilya Novikov: It’s been an extremely productive week on the Savchenko case #FreeSavchenko

By Ilya Novikov, Attorney for Nadiya Savchenko
08.01.2015
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

[It’s been] an extremely productive week on the Savchenko case.

Even a month ago I did not think that we would be going to court with such a splendid alibi and such international support. But first things first.

1. Nadiya’s book “The Strong name Nadiya” [“Hope”] was submitted for publication. She asked me to write the preface – to explain to everyone that it was I who persuaded her [to write it], rather than her taking to writing due to excess of literary ambitions. Myself, I have never read any prefaces in my life, and I have no idea what people write in them, and what their purpose is in the first place. But I honestly recounted how everything happened. The publisher promised to release a pilot print run before the verdict. The book is funny, you can read it in one breath; it reminds me of the Sea Stories by Alexander Pokrovsky.

2. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of European countries informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine that their diplomatic representatives will be present at the hearings for cases of Savchenko and Sentsov. Donetsk [Rostov Oblast of the Russian Federaton] is far [to get to] from anywhere, but there were about 5 people from different embassies even at the preliminary hearing. Because it was a closed hearing, they had to wait in the hallway, but they would not leave. Their presence is important in and of itself, even if a diplomat does not speak Russian and does not entirely understand what is happening.

3. The SSU [Security Service of Ukraine] and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine initiated criminal proceedings against two Russian investigators who had clearly falsified evidence in the Savchenko’s case, and against three judges who had extended her detention in violation of her PACE immunity and Russian laws. I was asked to withhold the details for now, especially about another person of interest in these proceedings, so I will not [reveal more at this time].

[Official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Vladimir] Markin, in his usual street-wise style, made a joke in his statement on the Investigative Committee’s website, saying that the prosecutors will get a big fat nothing*, but this joke holds as much water as those of stand-up comedians who mock the MN17 tribunal. I imagine that the defendants in the proceedings do not find this amusing. And the only reason why Markin himself was not included on that list was the restraint exercised by Ukrainian investigators who compiled it. The first version of the list includes only those individuals who are one hundred percent liable for the violation of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine [illegal confinement or kidnapping], whose signatures are on the documents, and whose role will be easy to demonstrate to international tribunals. Accomplices and benefactors, as usual, will he dealt with next.
*[“They’ll get a donut hole, not Sharapov.” – quote from the Soviet film The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed]

4. The preliminary hearing in Donetsk [Russia] has been wrapped up. The Rostov Oblast court must make a determination whether it is appropriate to hold a hearing 1,000 km [621 miles] away from all experts and 500 km [310 miles] from half the witnesses. I think that they will quickly give it a green light and return the case to Donetsk, but this pause of a few days was very valuable for us – finally, all expert opinions and expert conclusions that we were expecting have been signed, and are being translated into Russian. They are ruthlessly beautiful.

5. Nadiya’s phone billing records for two phones (with one and two SIM cards) were provided to the Investigative Committee back in December [2014]. Based on one number (operator MTS Ukraine), it appeared that on June 17, at 10:44-10:46 am, Nadiya was in the middle of Luhansk; based on the second (operator life:) and third (MTS Ukraine again) numbers that at 11:02-11:13 am and later, she was in the area of Krasnodonska Street, location of the separatist base in the former military enlistment office, where she was held captive until June 23. The artillery shelling that resulted in the journalists’ death took place at 11:40 am. To avoid acknowledging the alibi, the ICRF found specialists and experts who wrote that, based on the fact that the nearest antenna was not operational, and Savchenko (according to the investigators) was directing fire from a 40-meter mast near Stukalova Balka, her phone could have “caught” the phone mast in Luhansk. Seeing as the operating radius of such phone masts is up to 30 km, there existed a technical possibility that at the time, Nadiya was outside the city…

6. Well, all this turned out to be a complete nonsense.

7. On Tuesday, I received a response to my request  for information from the specialists of life:) [cell phone carrier]. The investigation’s version is baseless. The direction is wrong, the azimuth values are wrong, and [mobile] communications were working without interruptions in the combat area. Because the response [by the carrier] contains proprietary information, I was strongly urged to not make it public, except as part of the court materials. However, the court hearing must be open, and we will read the entire document at the hearing, so that specialists can then verify all calculations. They confirm preliminary findings for the phone data of the number +380630713521 as follows:
17.06.2014 11:02 121 Oboronna street, 105-U, AZ=20
17.06.2014 11:05 136 Shevchenko quarter, no number, AZ=120
17.06.2014 11:07 121 Oboronna street, 105-U, AZ=20
17.06.2014 11:09 121 Oboronna street, 105-U, AZ=20

This is an abridged version of the billing table. Date – time – base station address – azimuth. Azimuth is the most important thing for us. It is an angle value marking the bisecting line of the reception sector of the antenna that made the connection, counting from 0 – northward. Azimuth values of 20 and 120 always correspond to different retransmitting antennas. At 11:02, 11:07, and 11:09, one of Savchenko’s phones was located north of the mast in Oboronna Street, and at 11:05, it connected to another retransmitter. The phone was located southeast from that second transmitted. It COULD have been the area of the enlistment office, and could NOT have been the area of Stukalova Balka.

8. Yesterday, I received a response from the specialists at MTS Ukraine. Same picture again – wrong angles, wrong masts, and the frequency of phones in Stukalova Balka connecting to base stations in Luhansk is 0.0000000%. When making those connections, the phone could not have been there [Stukalova Balka]. This response was not accompanied by a request for strict confidentiality, so we are going to publish it next week along with the original materials and conclusions by the Russian experts. In brief, the billing is as follows:

17.06.2014 15:16 101 Oboronna Street, AZ= 130

If anyone is interested, you can play around with a map and a protractor – it was quite entertaining. For those who are too lazy, our experts have drawn up beautiful illustrations. Everything comes together – at 10:44 am, Nadiya was being taken from Stukalova Balka towards the military recruitment office in Krasnodonska street, passing through the city center; by 11 am, she was delivered there, and she also remained there during the second half of the day.

9. This morning, we received an expert opinion prepared by the Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Science, as requested by the Resolution of the SSU in relation to the criminal case of Savchenko’s kidnapping. [The document is] in Ukrainian, we will post it in full as soon as we translate it. [It is] about a video shot by Yegor Russkiy, the “people’s mayor” of Lutuhyne. He was among the separatists who took Savchenko prisoner. For a start, I was surprised that the ICRF [the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation] submitted the video into evidence in the first place. I filed a motion requesting to locate and question Russkiy, whom we found in Vkontakte [VK social network], even without knowing whether [Russkiy] was his real name. [The motion] included a CD with a YouTube video, which did not shed light on anything. Why the ICRF did not say that Russkiy cannot be found, and why that anonymous footage cannot be included in the case evidence – that I don’t know. Maybe they decided that it would play into their hands. One way or another, Russkiy was summoned from the LNR [Luhansk People’s Republic] and questioned, and had his disc with files taken away from him. After viewing the files, video experts in Kyiv immediately said that the file creation time was changed – moved backwards by 1 hour 30 minutes, in each of the 29 files. The EXIF blocks (whatever those are) contain the original timestamp, recorded by the camera’s timer. This alone is interesting – because someone went to the trouble of editing the files by hand, but did not know that deeper traces would remain. Not a specialist. When I wrote about this briefly, the media immediately reported “Savchenko’s Defense Accuses Investigation of Falsifying Evidence.” Personally, I don’t think this was done by the ICRF, but rather, [I] think that the unskilled falsifier was Russkiy himself. But that is not of critical importance right now.

10. The trouble is, the timer settings in Russkiy’s camera were off from the start, and even with the 1.5 hour adjustment, the time stamps are ridiculous – according to them, the events happened between 19:59 and 23:37 [7:59-11:37 pm] on June 16, while everyone understands that in reality, the time was the morning of the 17th. In our motions, we suggested to the investigators, twice, to try and establish the time using the position of the sun. Knowing place, date, and compass bearings, that is quite an easy task – at least it was considered such when we were graduating, back when astronomy had not yet been replaced by the foundations of Orthodoxy. The ICRF denied our request, and even provided a letter from the Sternberg Astronomical Institute with the Moscow State University, stating that the time of Savchenko’s abduction cannot be determined based [solely] on the footage, because the 11-second fragment of DSCF1379.avi does not show the sun or any other reference points. We suggested to determine the time based on the shots with the sun (there are plenty of those), from other files, and to use that data and the timestamp of each file to estimate, with some error, when the video fragment with Savchenko was filmed. This suggestion was also turned down, without going into detail.

11. Ukrainian experts, however, calculated everything quite simply. They took four appropriate freeze-frames from three different files, measured the angle of the sun’s elevation over the horizon, and tabulated them. It turned out that the recording time of the DSCF1379.avi corresponds to 10:31 am on 17.06.2014, give or take 10 minutes. This fits well with the version that at 10:44 am, Savchenko was being driven through Luhansk, and does not fit at all with the version that at 11:40 am she was directing the fire of Ukrainian howitzers. A plausible explanation also arose as to why Russkiy’s camera had the wrong time setting – if someone does not speak English well, and does not understand the difference between A.M. and P.M., they will not care whether their timer shows 10 in the morning or 10 in the evening. Adjusted back from the artificially subtracted 1.5 hours, the recording time of DSCF1379.avi falls at 22:31 [10:31 pm] on June 16. Without such an adjustment, at 21:01 [9:01 pm], I can easily imagine the people’s mayor of Lutuhyne, is making a statement to the ICRF that Savchenko was captured after noon or even after 1 pm – right after hastily editing the files, dialing back the time that contradicts his version, by the odd hour and a half. Perhaps at the time he thought he was being very ingenious.

All in all, the Investigative Committee had a fantastic run of bad luck in this case. As in the case with the BUK missiles [the MH17 crash], the lower ranks ruined the whole deal for their leaders. Separatists should have taken the phones away from Savchenko right away, and switched them off. Instead of shooting home videos, Yegor Russkiy should have been heroically shooting at the junta [Ukrainians], something he had come to Ukraine to do. And even if he shot those videos, he should not have brag-posted them all over VK. And even if he brag-posted them, he should not have given the videos to the investigators, but [instead] told them he had already deleted them. And the investigators should not have included the video in the case evidence. Or requested the phone billing records from the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the FSIN [Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia] should not have let the attorneys sign the documents on Savchenko’s nomination to the [Verkhovna] Rada. They should not have given anyone any access to her. Detain her in secret, and try her in secret. And now it is too late. All they have left to do now is their shame and Markin’s gang signs.

Caption: Figure 10. Freeze frame from DSCF1349.AVI
Figure 10 shows a freeze frame from the video footage file DSCF1349.AVI, showing the road and a person moving away from the camera. Let us plot the angle ABC, with the sides of the angle being the shadow cast by the person on the road, and the line connecting the topmost point of the person’s figure and its projection on the shadow. The value of the angle is 34.84 degrees (see scale fragment in Fig. 11 and the Sun’s real elevation in Fig. 12). Under conditions described above, the Sun’s elevation of ~34.8 degrees corresponds to the approximate time of 08 hours 11 minutes.

He was dying, but remained unbroken.

They lived through this together.

White operating rooms, surgical teams.

[They] were saving 39-year-old Oleksandr from Chernivtsi. [He was] wounded in Pisky, shrapnel in his head. Spent many days in intensive care. Tomorrow is the final reconstructive surgery on his skull.

“You have already overcome the greatest challenge,” said Andrey Sirko [neurosurgeon], patting the soldier on his shoulder. “You are not the only one with titanium [in your body].”

The art of survival and recovery ends with dignity.
