Dr. Serhiy Ryzhenko, Chief Doctor at Mechnikov Regional Clinical Hospital in Dnipropetrovsk
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine
He was dying, but remained unbroken.
They lived through this together.
White operating rooms, surgical teams.
[They] were saving 39-year-old Oleksandr from Chernivtsi. [He was] wounded in Pisky, shrapnel in his head. Spent many days in intensive care. Tomorrow is the final reconstructive surgery on his skull.
“You have already overcome the greatest challenge,” said Andrey Sirko [neurosurgeon], patting the soldier on his shoulder. “You are not the only one with titanium [in your body].”
The art of survival and recovery ends with dignity.
