Operational data from Information Resistance:

During the past 24 hours the Russian-terrorist forces continued shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops; armed confrontations have also been observed. In particular, in the vicinity of Pisky, insurgents attempted to storm the positions of Ukrainian units. The insurgents carried out their offensive in disparate groups after opening chaotic fire from small arms and taking several shots from mortars. Once Ukrainian servicemen opened response fire, the enemy quickly retreated.

Mass desertions of local insurgents is currently being observed at the advanced positions of the Russian-terrorist forces in the vicinity of Mariupol – Donetsk highway, and from Novotroitske to Olenivka. Only a handful of people continue to serve at checkpoints.

Meanwhile, a significant enemy formation has been observed near the settlement of Dokuchajevsk (over 200 Russian mercenaries disguised as “militia”). This formation is armed with several artillery systems (up to 6 units) and 10 armored fighting vehicles (AFVs).

4 mixed enemy mobile teams operate between the settlements of Olenivka and Hranitne. These groups include mortar crew, snipers, and rocket launchers. They get around using civilian vehicles.

An explosion took place in the vicinity of Makiivka, at the location of a repair and restoration unit, which is part of a Russian motorized rifle compound of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation. According to preliminary data, a 122-mm artillery high-explosive shell exploded. There are victims (up to 5 dead, up to 10 people injured). The Russian military, who arrived at the scene, have secured the perimeter of the explosion. According to the “official” version of the incident propagated by the command of the Russian-terrorist troops, the incident occurred as a result of the careless handling of ammunition. A version that this was an act of sabotage carried out by Ukrainian guerillas is currently distributed among Russian servicemen and insurgents (before and after the explosion in the area, small arms firefights between Russian troops and unidentified adversaries were observed).

Also, an explosion took place at an artillery ammunition warehouse of Russian-terrorist troops near the settlement of Alchevsk. The shell explosions continued for several hours. According to preliminary data, the incident occurred as a result of sabotage. There is no information on the casualties yet. Earlier, a consignment of ammunition for the gang of O.Mozgovoy arrived at the warehouse from Russia.

In the vicinity of Antratsyt, a “paid admission” has been introduced at all terrorist checkpoints (manned by local insurgents and Russian “Cossacks”). Thus, all civilian vehicles (private cars, buses, taxis) are charged “for the needs of the republic.”

Also in Antratsyt, the “ministry of national security” of the LNR [Luhansk People’s Republic] has launched a large-scale operation aimed at the search and neutralization of a pro-Ukrainian underground. The ministry employees organized patrols of the city streets; mobile groups work at night. Their task is to prevent the appearance of pro-Ukrainian slogans on building walls and to detain members of the underground.

A rumour has been vigorously disseminated among the leaders of the “DNR” [Donetsk People’s Republic] and “LNR” that the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine] is wiretapping the terrorist leadership. At their request, experts arrived from Russia to inspect the premises for listening devices. Measures are currently taken to identify the “junta accomplices” among the ranks of top terrorist leaders.

1,5 Stunden lang kämpften die pro-russischen Terroristen gegen das Gespenst ukrainischer Partisanen

http://crime.in.ua/news/20141222/boy-s-tenyu

Mo, 22/12/2014 – 19:14

Postage Stamp Legends of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

By Lyudmila Chayka

Legends of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Now the face of one of the best military engineers [a sapper] in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a legendary soldier with the call sign “Frenchman,” can be seen on stamps released into circulation by the Ukrainian State Postal Enterprise “Ukrposhta.” A series of stamps featuring our soldiers is entitled: “For the honor! For the glory! For the people!”

This serviceman is one of the best specialists in the field. He participated in the battle of Savur-Mohyla – creating mine fences under dense enemy fire to save the lives of our soldiers. Despite the shelling of snipers and enemy infantry, he neutralized mined crossings and bridges allowing Ukrainian soldiers to maneuver. His installed mines stopped convoys of Russian occupation forces nearby Mariupol.

Just this fall, bandits of the so-called “Novorossiya” offered 30 thousand hated-by-them USD for the head of this brave serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And the Chechen leader, Kadyrov, doubled that rate, provided that “Frenchman” was brought to Kadyrov’s residence alive.

The number of enemy land and anti-personnel mines, booby traps, and other explosive devices neutralized by “Frenchman” amounts already to, not numbers or even pounds … it is now measured in [metric] tons.

However, he does not see anything heroic in his work. He says that he just does what he knows and can [do]. But all of Ukraine’s defense rests exactly on people like “Frenchman.” People about whom legends are made on the front lines and in whose military work both soldiers and commanders are one hundred percent confident.

Dmitry Tymchuk: Military updates, 12/22 (13th “Day of Silence”)

Operational data from Information Resistance:

Over the past weekend, the departure of a majority of units of Russian-terrorist forces was recorded from the line of contact with the Ukrainian troops in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. This process is not observed in some areas – in particular, the enemy leaves its troops “at the front line” in the Pervomaisk – Lysychansk stretch, as well as near the settlements of Donetsk, Telmanove, Novoazovsk, and in the vicinity of the Bakhmut Highway [Donetsk region]. Russian army units and mercenaries are the first to leave the line of contact; units of local insurgents remain primarily in their positions.

At the same time, there has been an increase in efforts by the leadership of the Russian-terrorist troops to strengthen the centralization of command and to control the discipline of the units. Failure to obey the “central authority” on behalf of individual commanders and terrorist soldiers entails a threat of physical punishment up to a “death penalty.”

The concentration of enemy troops is currently underway along the Bakhmut Highway. Besides an airborne company tactical group that operated here earlier and the artillery group that provides its support (which shortened their distance to our advanced positions to a minimum), additional units began arriving to the second line [of the front].

[Our sources] recorded the arrival of another company tactical group and several gangs from A. Mozgovoy’s formation. The total number of enemy forces in the area of our checkpoints #29 and #31 has reached 600 people; a tank unit (up to 7 tanks), an artillery group (two-battery mixed artillery battalion, besides the cannon artillery – at least 4 MLRS), and about 25 armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) have been observed. The insurgents are armed with a large number of mortars, anti-tank systems, LNGs [anti-tank grenade launcher easels], RPGs; “Bumblebee” flamethrowers were observed as well. In this area, the enemy fires at the positions of our troops with small arms, sometimes using mortars.

In the area of the settlement of Hranitne, the Russian troops withdrew to the second echelon, two “mobile groups” of local insurgents remained “on the front line” (equipped with NSV-12.7 “Utes” large-caliber machine guns and 120-mm mortars). These groups were tasked with discharging harassing fire onto the positions of Ukrainian troops.

In Amvrosiivka, the commandant’s office of the Russian troops has been set up, staffed by a “rapid response team” (up to 40 servicemen of the Russian Federation) and the unit for equipment evacuation and emergency repairs. By creating the commandant’s office, the Russian command ensures “secondary” routes for procurement convoys from Russia through Amvrosiivka and Telmanove towards the south (the area of Novoazovsk).

[Our sources] have observed a new method of regrouping, that the enemy forces use to conceal their progression to the advanced positions. Now, the personnel and its supporting equipment are moved separately. At first, the personnel arrived at the positions (mostly by civilian transportation), then the equipment and heavy weapons “roll over” in small groups (the tanks and artillery come last).

Unique volunteer movement that prepares dry borshch helps soldiers of over 15 brigades in one month

[Editor’s note: According to army volunteers, Ukrainian army food is awful. While the military officials and the volunteers at the MoD work to solve this problem, regular Ukrainians decided to take matters into their own hands.]

Kyiv volunteers prepare homemade food for Ukrainian servicemen using a unique technology.

Kyiv volunteer organization “Mother’s Charm” sends everything that young women can make with their own hands, from clothes to food—to the frontline, Ganna Zhurbenko, the coordinator of the volunteer group explained to espreso.tv.

“It all started with weaving the camouflage netting. Women who wanted to help started coming to us. Now, in addition, we sew balaklavas, knit socks, sew pillows,” noted Ganna.

[The women] work on the camouflage netting from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Everyone willing comes to help.

Click on images to enlarge in slide show:

“Mother’s charm” is different [from other volunteer organizations] because the young women prepare dry borshch and soup for the servicemen. Dry soup and borshch are a unique opportunity for Ukrainian troops to try homemade foods under war conditions. These are packages of dried, chopped vegetables for soup or borshch. To prepare them, the soldiers need only to pour five liters of water over the contents. After boiling the mix for 10 minutes, the soldiers get real borshch that tastes as good as conventional borshch. One mix is enough for 7-10 servicemen.

“We make about a hundred of these mixes in a week. We also dry some chicken. In addition, we make sauerkraut for our servicemen; the women bake and make other homemade foods. [We] will try to send them the first batch of dumplings, we’ll see how well they travel. We are all doing what we can. One volunteer made ‘Olivier salad,’ the guys were so happy, saying that they haven’t tried such tasty foods for a while,” says Ganna.

Now the volunteer group amounts to over a hundred volunteers; there are school children that work on the camouflage netting. Women from different cities join the Kyivans in their efforts: Vasylkiv, Obukhiv, Myronivka.

“Our volunteer group has been operational for 4 weeks. We ship large packages twice a week and small ones – every day. Volunteers who transport the packages to the frontline turn to us, and we give them the packages which they deliver further on. During these four weeks we provided over 15 military brigades with dry borshch and other food, as well as some equipment,” said the volunteer.

These packages get delivered to different places of deployment; recently, the volunteers have also started to help refugees and military hospitals.

“They also need [our] help. We send the donated bed linens to the hospitals and light summer clothes to the refugees: there is currently no use for them on the frontline,” says Ganna.

The coordinator of the volunteer group shared that they plan to make bedding for servicemen in the near future. And on December 19, the volunteers are holding a concert for soldiers admitted to the hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv. Five women and a dozen children will sing for the defenders of Ukraine for St. Nicholas Day.
