Operational data from Information Resistance:

The Russian military command addressed a complaint to the “DNR” [Donetsk People’s Republic] leadership, concerning the latter’s failure to create the “Army of Novorossiya.” According to the version of the representatives of Russia, the task set by the Kremlin – to unite all gangs under a single military command – failed because the “DNR” leadership “lacks political will.”

Meanwhile, desertion and marauding are becoming even bigger problems for the “DNR.” Marauding and armed conflicts between terrorist groups are particularly strong in the areas to the south of Donetsk, where insurgents from various “DNR” gangs and groups fled once those gangs were disbanded.

On the Debaltseve foothold, in the area of Nikishyne and Chornukhyne, Russian-terrorist troops were reinforced by several “newly created” companies of the “Cossack guard.” Insurgents from these formations are dressed in the new winter uniform of Russian standard, well-equipped and well-armed. They have up to 20 armored vehicles at their disposal.

We receive reports of the movement of insurgents’ armored vehicles and self-propelled artillery system in the area of Bakhmut motorway, away from the line of contact with Ukrainian troops and towards areas near Alchevsk and to the west of Luhansk. Damaged equipment is being towed away. A total of up to 30 units have been spotted, including T-72 and T-64 tanks, and “Gvozdika” 2-S1 self-propelled artillery systems.

Insurgents in the area of Stanytsia Luhanska, following preliminary shelling, tried to move to a number of positions in the “buffer zone.” However, they were met with dense small arms fire of Ukrainian units, and fell back to their original positions.

A clash took place to the north of Novoazovsk, where pro-Ukrainian guerrilla fighters attacked a communication center of Russian troops. The enemy incurred losses. This attack caused significant uproar in the ranks of Russian-terrorist troops, who were not expecting guerrilla action in this area.

A composite company task group of Russian troops acting near Telmanove, reinforced by an artillery battalion, moved to the first line in the area of Hranitne again. Earlier, as was reported by the IR group, this unit incurred losses from Ukrainian artillery strikes and withdrew further behind its lines.

At a closed meeting presided by the head of the “LNR” [Luhansk People’s Republic] Ihor Plotnitsky, the “LNR counter-intelligence” warned about the possibility of “hunger riots” among the local population. The insurgent “counter-intelligence operatives” believe that the situation is further exacerbated by the “lack of transparency” in the distribution of “humanitarian aid” arriving from Russia.

Sonia Koshkina on Anna Netrebko: There are things in life that cannot be justified by any: “art is outside of politics”

By Sonia Koshkina, Editor-in Chief at Levyi Bereh [Left Bank], LB.ua

Now my turn has come for disappointment. Hard disappointment.

Many of you know that I love classical music. A lot. Like crazy. I don’t think I need to explain who Anna Netrebko is in the world of modern classical. A living legend is the most vegetarian of definitions.

A good portion of my whole home collection is her recordings. And how they sing the duet with Vilazon!!! And the concert together with Hvorostovsky on the Red Square? I loved it so much, [I] listened to it for hours at a time. Haven’t put it on for over a year. And now don’t know when I’ll put it on next. If at all.

Because, there are things in life that cannot be justified by any: “art is outside of politics.”

I confess: when she came out together with [Oleg] Tsarov, I tried, in a cowardly way, to “cover it up” by thinking she is brainwashed by Russia Today and such – and simply does not quite understand who he is. It was said: he was invited, as a media person, so that the aid [Netrebko’s donation] does not get “lost.” Well, that’s sort of logical.

But after this photo here, God forgive me, no doubt remains. I saw it from a friend, I wrote – “send me a pic of this vatnik.”

Ugh, – I think, – could I have ever imagined that I would say that about Netrebko? The best Traviata in the world – hers, and now… honestly, how the regime cripples people’s brains ((

Considering, she lives in Austria, but is so smart as to wear a t-shirt with the words “To Berlin!” What the actual fuck? ((( Austrian airlines, whom she represented, broke off the contract with her after the photosession with Tsarov. But this I think is only the beginning.

Marlene Dietrich was the favourite actress and singer of Hitler. In the nascent Nazi empire she could have become the number one star. She could have had everything.

But she left what she had, renounced her citizenship and moved to the USA. When the war began she toured on the front lines, performing before the soldiers. Unlike Netrebko, she was able to distinguish good from evil.

Dmitry Tymchuk: Military updates, 12/15 (6th “Day of Silence”)

Operational data from Information Resistance:

The ongoing “regime of silence” [ceasefire] in Donbas is accompanied by shelling from Russian-terrorist troops, as well as measures to improve their combat readiness and the logistical means necessary to continue fighting.

A powerful disinformation campaign is underway in social networks and the general media field, to conceal the accumulation of resources and the [ongoing] training of Russian-terrorist forces to further warfare. Information is spread that the “artillery is being taken away,” “the number of militias is being reduced,” etc. In reality, we have reports of the situation being exactly the opposite.

In particular, in recent days in the territory controlled by the “DNR” [Donetsk People’s Republic], the terrorist leadership was solving the problem of providing their insurgents with winter clothing using the resources coming from Russia on board the “humanitarian convoy” (the terrorist units fighting south of Donetsk – in the area of Dokuchaievsk, Olenivka, Telmanove – were particularly unprepared for winter). Also, the accumulation of other logistical resources continues, including fuel, ammunition, and spare parts for military equipment. Over the past weekend (12.13-14.2014), we recorded the arrival of at least 2 columns with refueling companies (up to 40 cars) from the Russian Federation.

The advanced positions of the Russian-terrorist troops in the western sector have been significantly reinforced. The new checkpoints and hidden positions for artillery and armored vehicles have been equipped and carefully camouflaged. Reinforcements withdrawn from Yenakijeve and Makiivka militia units have been pulled up to the flanking positions of the Debaltseve springboard. Fresh units of Russian military servicemen (up to 2 company task groups) pulled up to the area of Verhulivka from the direction of Alchevsk (we mainly counted contract soldiers from the units and formations of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation).

We received a report that a warehouse for artillery ammunition and spare parts for rocket-launching artillery was created in Antratsyt, in the territory of one of the city’s industrial enterprises. Supplies are arriving from the Russian Federation. The terrorists are scouring the city for “wheeled army standard vehicles specialists.”

Over the last weekend, an advanced composite company task group with one of the Russian motorized infantry brigades, reinforced by two artillery batteries, spent many hours shelling advanced Ukrainian positions from the direction of Hryhorivka (Telmanove District). Prolonged fire was also delivered onto the positions of Ukrainian troops in the area to the north of Vesela Hora (from insurgent positions to the east of Luhansk).

During the weekend, an artillery battalion and a motorized infantry company on board of an APC, which arrived from the Russian Federation, passed through Uspenka – Amvrosiivka – Kuteinykove, accompanied by a vehicle labeled “OSCE.”

A new insurgent “battalion” is being formed in Krasnyi Luch. According to our reports, this new unit includes only a few locals, consisting mainly of Russian mercenaries who arrived from Russia with “humanitarian convoy” #9. Most of the mercenaries are representatives of fringe population groups.

Armored vehicles were reported moving towards Shchastya – 3 terrorist tanks were being moved back to positions after repair.

The “DNR leadership” is concerned about cases of “mass marauding” on the part of its “militia.” A closed meeting was held by the “DNR” leadership to discuss this problem. According to the statement made at the meeting, during the last week, over 100 marauding insurgents were detained and caught red-handed.

Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer lays into Russian soprano Anna Netrebko

By Norman Lebrecht, for Slippedisc–the inside track on classical music and related cultures
12.11.2014
Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

The Latvian violinist was asked by Deutsche Welle to respond to the Russian soprano’s public support for illegal Ukraine factions. He said that the cheque Netrebko gave to a separatist leader [Oleg Tsarev] had been a ‘completely conscious and political act.’

Gideon Kremer added: “Artists should promote harmony and peace. It’s such a shame that one of the most beautiful voices in the world sounds such questionable tones.”

UPDATE: Gidon has asked us to publish the full text of his DW comments, which were actually a joint statement with the composer Giya Kancheli:

“How wonderful it would have been to have held this action in Donetsk a year ago, before they’d fanned [the flames of] war.” (Giya Kancheli and Gidon Kremer together).

“Today, one can only conclude that it is a totally conscious and political action (posture).

In any case – this is not a gesture of reconciliation that could help resolve the conflict in the region or contribute to preserving the legal integrity of Ukraine.” (Gidon Kremer).

“Artists should promote harmony and peace. It’s such a shame that one of the most beautiful voices in the world sounds such questionable tones.”
