Eugenia Tymoshenko, daughter of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, believes that by seeming to agree to negotiations to help resolve the social and political crisis, the Ukrainian authorities are only dragging things out to preserve their power and government posts.
“My mother thinks the people will soon prevail. Yanukovych should also sense this because he’s losing control,” Eugenia Tymoshenko said in an interview with Austria’s Die Presse.
She said Yulia Tymoshenko believes negotiations with the ruling government are ridiculous and unacceptable. “Negotiations could only lead to questionable compromises. The government is buying time. My mother is against any half-measures,” Eugenia Tymoshenko said.
The ex-premier’s daughter also said democratic countries should impose sanctions against Ukrainian officials who were involved in the use of force against peaceful protesters and human rights violations. “Former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov should be banned from entering the EU after his interior minister did nothing to stop the use of force by law enforcement. I’m sure the EU knows about the money laundering by top Ukrainian officials, and they should be subject to targeted sanctions,” Eugenia Tymoshenko added.
