According to the statement voted by the People’s Council on January 27 and signed by Members of the Presidium of the council; Vitali Klitschko, Oleh Tyahnybok and Arseniy Yatsenyk, Berkut is recognized as a criminal organization. The statement was reported to Ukrainian National News by the spokesman of the Batkivshchyna party.

“Taking into consideration the numerous violations of the Ukrainian constitutions, the Ukrainian law and internal regulations, the systematic abuse of power, inadequate use of force, including brutal torture and beating peaceful protesters, journalists, doctors, as well as murders of Ukrainian citizens by the special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), “Berkut”, doing the will of the Ukrainian people, which is the only source of power in Ukraine and making the important first step for the radical transformation of the oppressive MIA into a true democratic European body protecting the rights and freedom of its people,

the People’s Council of Ukraine resolves:

To recognize the MIA special unit “Berkut” is a criminal organization, the members of which are constantly violating Ukrainian law and have been involved in cynical crimes against their own people.

To eliminate the Interior Ministry special unit “Berkut” that as a whole is considered to be outside of the legislature of Ukrainian law.

To call all “Berkut” soldiers, members and commanders, who have not been involved in crimes against human rights and freedoms, to lay down arms and go to the side of supporting the Ukrainian people.

To Declare them Amnesty and to ensure their personal safety.” says the statement.
