Operational data from Information Resistance:

Over the last 24 hours, Russian-terrorist forces in Donbas shelled the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian objects from infantry and heavy infantry weapons, artillery, and armored vehicles.

The positions of ATO forces were repeatedly shelled in the vicinity of Pisky and Opytne, fire strikes were inflicted on positions near Avdiivka, several mine explosions were recorded in the vicinity of Vodyane. Terrorists used 82- and 120-mm mortars, as well as SPG-9 “Kopye” during these attacks. Two firestrikes were made from ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft systems mounted on vehicles.

In the vicinity of Shumy and Leninske, several insurgent infantry groups invaded the “neutral zone” and shelled the outposts and forward positions of ATO forces from small arms and heavy machine guns. Ukrainian troops returned fire, forcing the enemy to return to its starting positions.

Several enemy sniper teams are operating on the Mariinka – Shumy stretch. These groups fight using the same tactics: they approach the forward positions of the ATO forces under cover of their unit’s small arms fire, they disguise themselves, open fire on command, and then, they step back to their starting positions under cover of their insurgent unit’s small arms fire (sometimes – mortars). A sniper terrorist group that uses the same tactics has been observed in the vicinity of Shyroka Balka (Artemivsk direction).

An insurgent sabotage and reconnaissance group (12 people) has been discovered by a military guard near an outpost of Ukrainian troops. After a brief firefight, the enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group retreated to the SyhnalneOlenivka stretch.

Near Shyrokyne, terrorists fired using 82- and 120-mm mortars, AGS-17 “Plamya” automatic grenade launchers, and SPG-9 mounted grenade launchers. Several fire strikes from 122-mm artillery have been observed (the [strikes] adjusted due to the change of firing positions of the insurgent artillery units).

In the vicinity of Shchastya, Trokhizbenka, and Zolote active armed clashes continued between insurgent sabotage and reconnaissance groups and the ATO forces. Positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Shchastya received aimed fired from machine guns and AGS-17.

The enemy used tanks, BTR-80, and BMP-2 to fire north of Yasynuvata near Troitske.

During the past 24 hours, insurgents continued intensive road transports on occupied territory. The most active movement of transport has been observed in the vicinity of Donetsk and Luhansk. Two convoys have been observed between Alchevsk and Luhansk (6 and 13 vehicles respectively). One of the convoys was escorted by a BTR-80. In addition, active transport movement has been recorded between AmvrosiivkaStarobesheveDokuchajevsk (a tactical group centered between Dokuchajevsk and Olenivka replenishes material and technical resources).

Movement of military units and equipment:

• A “DNR army” unit numbering 150-160 people has arrived in the vicinity of Spartak. The unit includes mortar crew detachements (three 82-mm mortars), four IFVs [infantry fighting vehicles], and up to 10 trucks.

• A local terrorist “battalion” in the Petrovskyi district of Donetsk has held a rotation and received reinforcements (for resupply up to 50 insurgents came with small arms and 3 SPG-9 units came from the south).

• The movement of armored vehicles has been observed between Yasynuvata and Horlivka: 11-12 vehicles proceeded in the northern direction (six of them – tanks). Insurgents set up a service center for armored vehicles near Panteleymonivka.

• The transfer of terrorist equipment and weapons continues between PervomaiskStakhanovDonetsk. Seven tanks and four ACVs have been transferred from Stakhanov towards the Bakhmut highway (three BMP-2 and a MT-LB). Six APCs and ACVs have been moved to Pervomaisk. Three D-30 howitzers on a trailer and two APCs have been transferred towards Perevalsk through Debaltseve and Chornukhyne. 18 ACVs and five or six tanks have been moved from Oleksandrivsk towards Zholobok.

• There is continued transfer of military equipment to insurgent “training centers” near Lutuhyne from Luhansk and Krasnodon; some of the equipment is transported from the Russian Federation by Russian servicemen. During the past 24 hours, we observed four BTR-80, two 80A\82A APCs, an armored reconnaissance and patrol vehicle, two BTR-70 APCs and four MT-LB armored towing vehicles being transferred to these “educational centers” (the latter vehicles – as modified artillery fire control vehicles). Currently, terrorist units from the “LNR army” get trained near Lutuhyne for operations in the northern districts of Luhansk region.

“You will make it to captain with me!..”

Different people serve on the frontlines in the ATO [Anti-Terrorism Operation] zone. We regularly meet charismatic and extraordinary people [there]. Serhiy Filippov, Medical Services Corp Second Lieutenant, is one of them.

The medical station head of a battalion of a separate mechanized brigade that carries out combat missions in Sector “A” of the ATO, according to the command, Serhiy is not only a great expert, but also a natural comedian and a master of witty jokes. In addition, the 28-year-old medical officer has an unusual appearance: a red mustache and a Cossack oseledets woven into a braid.

“This is an old Ukrainian national military haircut, he says.  If we serve in an active army, then we must follow martial traditions of our ancestors.”

Serhiy graduated from the Kharkiv Medical University and was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the August mobilization last year. He is a Donbas native, from the city of Kostyantynivka [Donetsk region]. The military doctor has plenty of work: examining the sick and the wounded, providing medical care, evacuating the sick and the wounded to permanent medical facilities.

According to Serhiy, a funny incident happened to him immediately upon his arrival to the unit. He got his own call sign practically on the first day of his military service.

“We, the newly mobilized, were brought from the collection point to the deployment site of a military unit,” he says. “We had not really had time to even look around and understand how things worked. We were immediately accommodated in the barracks. So I entered the sleeping room, where they showed me my bed. And there, practically at the door, I bumped into some fellow in a military uniform. I knew nothing about the epaulets and ranks then. I look at him – [he’s] tough, ‘pumped up.’ He critically examined me from head to toe in the same manner. I wore a striped undershirt [Ed. Note: Ukrainian seamen wear it] and a blue bandana. And so he said: ‘Oh, what type of Jack Sparrow are you?..’ Everybody saw the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and remember how Johnny Depp’s character reacted when people forgot to call him ‘Captain Jack Sparrow.’ So I decided to make a joke and replied emphasizing the word ‘Captain:’ Captain Jack Sparrow!!! The fellow smiled, slapped me on the shoulder (his arm was pretty heavy) and said, ‘You will make it to captain with me!..’ Not only did I get my radio call sign, but I also became personally acquainted with our brigade commander.”

Since that time, the soldiers of the battalion call the doctor nothing but “Pirate.” The battalion physician is well-respected, he has saved plenty of lives in his year of service. Besides, by virtue of his cheerful nature, Serhiy always supports the morale of his military brothers.

Operational data from Information Resistance:

Russian-terrorist forces continue blatantly violating the ceasefire imposed by the Minsk Agreements by firing at ATO forces’ positions along the entire line of contact.

In the Donetsk sector, insurgents fired at ATO forces positions using heavy infantry weapons, including “banned” 120-mm caliber mortars. Insurgents employed snipers and infantry firing groups in the vicinity of Pisky, Opytne, Avdiivka, Kirove, Leninske, Mariinka, and Krasnohorivka. We have spotted several armored terrorist groups (a total of 20 tanks and armored fighting vehicles) operating as “roaming firing units” between Krasnohorivka and Opytne, and shelling the ATO forces.

In the Seaside [Mariupol] sector, insurgents used small arms, mortars, and 122-mm artillery systems.

In the Luhansk sector, pro-Russian terrorists used armored vehicles and artillery to shell the ATO forces. They delivered precision fire from 122-mm artillery, tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles in the vicinity of Krymske, Shchastia, Sokoniki, and Stanytsia Luhanska. Ukrainian troops near Novotoshkivske, Zolote, and Donetske were also shelled by the enemy’s maneuvering armored groups, ZU-23-2 mobile anti-aircraft autocannons, and 122-mm artillery.  Illegal armed gangs have also become more active in these areas.

matryoshka_soldiers

All insurgent units operating in the vicinity of the Bakhmut highway, Stakhanov, Alchevsk, and other settlements north of the Donetsk-Luhansk highway have moved under the “central military command” of the LNR terrorist organization [Luhansk People’s Republic]. Manpower and equipment are accumulating at the flank positions in the area near the ZholobokSlovianoserbsk stretch and northeast of Pervomaisk. 17 armored vehicles and trucks have been transferred into the area.

Regrouping of terrorist manpower and equipment continues between Yasynuvata and Horlivka. Two firing units operating 122-mm artillery have been moved to this area through Panteleymonivka (eight D-30 howitzers), while 12 tanks and armored combat vehicles were transferred through Yenakijeve.

Several mortar batteries operating 82-mm and 120-mm mortars (up to 16 mortars in total) have been moved to the Kirovskyi district of Donetsk.

Two support convoys consisting of 15 vehicles, including tanker trucks, have passed from Krasnodon in the direction of Luhansk  and Lutuhyne.

Multiple trucks have been spotted moving towards Horlivka and Donetsk through Makiivka.
