Central Election Commission refused Darth Oleksiyovych Vader

On Thursday, April 3, 2014, the Central Election Commission of Ukraine [CEC] refused to register Darth Vader [the First Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Internet Party] (UIP) as a candidate in the emergency presidential elections scheduled for May 25, 2014. The decision was made by the majority vote of the Commission, reports the LIGABusinessInform correspondent.

Ihor Zhydenko, a CEC member who presented the report at the meeting, said that Vader had made a number of mistakes and errors during the submission in filling out the paperwork. In particular, neither of the documents specifies the name change from last name Shevchenko to Vader, which happened on March 19, 2014.

Income and real estate declarations were not filled out by Vader himself, he only signed it, which has been verified by the Ukrainian Scientific and Research Institute of the Specialized Machinery and Forensic Expertise of the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine]. There are mistakes in the documents themselves, and there is a question as to whether Vader filled out the application form himself.

The CEC also noted that they have not received the decision by the Congress of the Ukrainian Internet Party about nominating Darth Vader, a candidate for the President of Ukraine.

It is also reported that the Interior Ministry has initiated criminal proceedings regarding falsification [of documents]. Moreover, the CEC decided to submit their statement to the Prosecutor’s Office themselves.

“It might seem like an innocent joke. But somebody paid 2.5 million Hryvnuas for this joke. Someone will benefit from turning the presidential elections in Ukraine into a farce. We should also take into account the particular attention some Russian media pay to this story,” Ihor Zhydenko commented on this decision.

Thus, the CEC representative suggested Darth Vader should not be discouraged and instead introduce his candidacy at the presidential elections in Russia, “They already have little green men there and a Commander-in-Chief like you will be appropriate.”

As of April 3, 2014, 5:30 pm (local time) there are 23 registered candidates in the presidential elections of Ukraine.
