Today, as part of the Munich Security Conference, the daughter of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, Yevgeniya Tymoshenko, and the Deputy Head of Batkivshchyna and Chairman of European Integration Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Grygoriy Nemyria, met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland.
The parties discussed the worsening of the political crisis in Ukraine and possible solutions to resolve this crisis.
Victoria Nuland briefed Tymoshenko and Nemyria about the current measures and further actions considered by the United States and the European Union in close communication with leaders from the opposition and civil society, as well as cooperative representatives of the Ukrainian government, to find political mechanisms aimed at stopping escalation of violence and initiating productive political dialogue that provides for peaceful resolution of conflict in Ukraine.
She emphasized the U.S. plans in close coordination with the EU for intensification of their efforts to promote a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine. Moreover, Victoria Nuland announced that she intended to visit Ukraine again next week.
Yevgeniya Tymoshenko informed U.S. Assistant Secretary of State about Yulia Tymoshenko’s vision for the peaceful resolution of the political crisis in Ukraine and relayed her gratitude to the U.S. government for its efforts to promote peaceful resolution of the conflict and find ways to prevent the conflict from escalating and to avoid any future loss of human life.
Meanwhile, Grygoriy Nemyria has informed the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State about increasing pressure from the Ukrainian government on the Batkivshchyna Party and opposition activists.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the proposal to create an international commission on investigation of facts of violence and violation of human rights in Ukraine.
Victoria Nuland also offered words of support to Yulia Tymoshenko.
