The EU is not yet talking about the introduction of targeted sanctions against members of the Ukrainian leadership, but is ready to check the accounts of the Ukrainian oligarchs in EU banks.

This was announced by the EU Budget Commissioner, Janusz Lewandowski, as reported by the UNIAN correspondent in Brussels.

“The EU will go beyond statements of condemning violence. At the moment we are not talking about any sanctions from the EU, but there are oligarchs’ interests, there are bank accounts that can be checked,” he said.

“These steps can be taken before the imposition of sanctions, but they can be felt if they touch on the interests of the ruling groups in Ukraine,” – said the EU Commissioner.

Lewandowski added that the chances of signing the Association Agreement are now “reduced to zero,” and that the agenda of the EU and Ukraine is dominated by negative reactions and statements.
