The Vice President of the United States urged President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to abandon introducing a state of emergency in the country and to pull special forces from the streets of Kyiv.

The Vice President “warned Yanukovych against taking tough measures,” particularly against the imposition of a state of emergency, – stated the White House who held telephone talks with Biden – Yanukovych.

Biden also urged the Ukrainian president “to pull police special forces out of streets and respond to the discontent of the Ukrainian people.”

The American politician noted that “you cannot waste time” for achieving a peaceful solution to the problem of “conflict between the Ukrainian government and protesters.”

The negotiations took place on the initiative of the Americans. It was Biden’s second call for Yanukovich in a week.
