Rich Myers: Now – all burned, rubble and smoke

My Ukrainian friend, Katerina, watching news of growing Maidan death totals today in Kyiv on channel TSN.

Earlier today my hostel, steps away from Independence Square, was evacuated as fears loomed of army invasion (not confirmed by myself) – she insisted I bring all my things to her home, which is OK because there are many pictures to work through tonight which must get out.

I met Katerina one week ago through another Ukrainian friend. Her job involves arranging logistics for travel, so we spoke about how the Euromaidan movement had affected tourism in Ukraine, and Kyiv especially (this interview I have yet to process and post). Then, one could stroll through Kreshchatyk St, through Instytutska St. and continue on past the Metro, talk to people or take pictures. Now – all burned, rubble and smoke.
