Yuriy Lutsenko, leader of the “Third Ukrainian Republic” movement, announced in a public meeting of the opposition during the Sunday rally on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv that the Maidan’s Self-Defense units now count 10,000 people – twice as much as Ukrainian “Berkut” special police force.
According to Censor.NET, quoting Glavcom.ua, he also asked people to join the Maidan Self-Defense units, as well as to form self-defense units across all of Ukraine.
The politician also called upon MPs to form a parliamentary majority in support of the demands of the Maidan when Verkhovna Rada reconvenes on February 4.
He urged them to reinstate the “old, democratic” constitution [of 2004].
The Berkut special police forces of Ukraine currently employ 4,000 people.
