A public union established in Kharkiv known as the Ukrainian Front has chosen the St. George ribbon as its symbol. According to Mykhailo Dobkin, the head of Kharkiv Oblast Administration and the regional leader of the Party of Regions, the name and the symbolisms of the new organization are meant as a reminder that 70 years ago soldiers of the Ukrainian front of the Soviet Army liberated the country from the Nazi invaders.
Dobkin said that “the colors of the St. George ribbon represent bravery and were passed down since the time when Russian officers of the Russian army liberated our lands from invaders.”
